How to Decorate a Pumpkin Without Actually Carving It

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

The air feels crispier. The ground sounds crunchier on your walks to class due to the excessive amount of leaves that have accumulated beneath your feet. Stores have started selling everything pumpkin spice-themed. This can only mean one thing: fall has finally arrived.

Everyone has a favorite fall festivity. It could be admiring vibrant fall foliage or picking pumpkins with friends. Sometimes pumpkin carvings go as planned, and other times it’s more about the thought that counts. Just in case carving pumpkins isn’t your forte this fall, here are some ways to celebrate pumpkin season without actually having to carve one:

1. Paint a pumpkin

If you have some extra paint around your house, then this is the perfect way to turn your home into a fall-themed palace. With access to different colored paints, your options for decorating a pumpkin are endless. You can line up multiple pumpkins together to form a replicate of a famous piece of artwork or even paint your own masterpiece.

2. Build a pumpkin terrarium

Another way to spice up your home this fall is by turning a pumpkin into a terrarium. If painting is not your forte, then this is the perfect alternative to embellish your home this fall. The terrarium-styled pumpkin will add fengshui to your home to ease you during times of stress, while also keeping your spirits high this autumn season.

3. Throw it back to arts and crafts

If painting pumpkins and designing terrariums are not on your skill level, then another spooky yet cheerful pumpkin decoration is embellishing a pumpkin with various arts and crafts items. Just grab your hot glue gun and add googly eyes to the pumpkin to create a silly face, or you can use various colored pieces of construction paper and create any type of design you want.

4. Draw a design on it

If you don’t want to stain your shirt with paint and you still don’t trust yourself around hot glue guns, then drawing a design on the pumpkin is the best way to get yourself into the fall spirit! Grab some permanent markers and draw your favorite ghostly Halloween designs. Whether you draw witches’ hats or candy corn, your pumpkin will appear Halloween-ready!

Fall is one of the best times of the year, and these pumpkin decorating alternatives will help you transform your home into a venti pumpkin spice latte in no time!
