Tik Tok is probably the hottest app in the world right now.

Since its creation in 2017, it has gained over 500 million users, and was the 7th most downloaded app of the decade. A significant part of Tik Tok is anyone’s ability to go viral and become famous due to the feature of the “For You” page. One student who has gone viral is freshman Alexis LoVuolo, who has amassed about 105,800 followers in a little over a year. She originally went viral from a video where she drew boxes onto a pair of white vans and eventually turned each box into a different album cover. That video, which got 4.3 million views and 491,000 likes, gained LoVuolo many new followers and launched her into Tik Tok fame. LoVuolo isn’t only famous for her art videos though — a recent video of her dancing to a remix of Tongue Tied made the “For You” page, getting 531,200 views and 51,400 likes. Due to the growing popularity of the app,  and her continued success with getting on the “For You” page, I decided to ask her questions about what has made her successful on Tik Tok and tips on how to go viral.

Q: How did you get started on Tik Tok?

A: My friends had it and I downloaded it as a joke and started learning the trending dances.

Q: What was the first video of yours that went viral?

A: I painted a bunch of album covers on a pair of white vans.

Q: Did you ever think you would go viral on Tik Tok?

A: Not even a little bit.

Q: What has contributed to your ability to learn the trending Tik Tok dances?

A: I’ve been dancing since I was 2 years old and went to a performing arts middle school. Dance is my life and I can retain the steps easily.

Q: Any advice for people who aspire to be Tik Tok famous?

A: Do the trend dances, the type of lighting you are in is important, location, and hashtags. Use the hashtags that are currently trending on Tik Tok and always use the #foryou.
