Ā

Name: Carolyn Hayford

Year:Ā Senior

Major: Economics

Hometown:Ā Alpharetta, Ga.

Meet theĀ GreekĀ SingĀ 2012 Overall,Ā Carolyn Hayford from Alpharetta, Georgia. Carolyn is majoring in economics, but has dedicated a great deal of her time toĀ GreekĀ SingĀ this year. Ā

HC: What is best part about being the executive director?

Carolyn: Wow, that’s a really tough question. The whole experience has been so fun for me, especially working with everyone on the executive committee, butĀ I’d have to say the past few weeks and getting to see everything come together. Because of my position, I know all of the months of planning and day-to-day work that is necessary from each person involved to make an event likeĀ GreekĀ SingĀ possible. Seeing everything finally falling into place has been really exciting.

HC: What are you looking forward to most in theĀ GreekĀ Sing performances?

Carolyn:Ā This year has a lot of really great performances. We completed secondĀ dress rehearsals just before Thanksgiving break and I was really impressed with what the chairs have come up with. I’m really looking forward to seeing these performances at their full potential – in full costume and all. They were already looking really promising and I’m so excited to see how they look the day of the show!

HC: What is your favorite musical?

Carolyn: My favorite musical is definitely Wicked.Ā I’ve been lucky enough to have seen it twice on Broadway, and no matter how many times I hear the song ā€œDefying Gravityā€, I still get chills.

HC: What was your favorite memory ofĀ GreekĀ SingĀ when you danced and sang in it?

Carolyn: I performed inĀ GreekĀ SingĀ both my freshman and sophomore year. One of the great aspects ofĀ GreekĀ SingĀ is how close you get with your entire triad because of the countless practices needed to prepare for day of show. My favorite memory was definitely the moment they announced that we had won 1stĀ place Overall Long Performance inĀ Spamalotmy sophomore year. It was an amazing feeling to know all our extra practices paid off.

HC: What other organizations are you a part of?

Carolyn: Well right now, in addition to being a sister of Delta Gamma, I am also a mock interview intern at Penn State Career Services. Between these two things andĀ GreekĀ Sing, I haven’t had time for much else this semester!

HC: In your opinion, what is the best part ofĀ GreekĀ Sing?

Carolyn: As a performer, the best part ofĀ GreekĀ SingĀ is definitely the moment you finally perform. It’s amazing when you think about all the time and work that the performers and chairs put into for those five to eight minutes on stage. But this year, being on the executive committee, I’d say the best part for me will be when we announce the people that will be receiving the Gayle Beyer’s Scholarship. It has been the main goal for our entire committee for the past seven months to raise this money: all of our fundraisers and hard work has been for this cause. Even though the performances are so much fun to watch, providing this scholarship and giving back to members ofĀ GreekĀ life is whatĀ GreekĀ SingĀ is really all about.

HC: How will you feel whenĀ GreekĀ SingĀ is over?

Carolyn: Tired. Just kidding, I’ve actually been thinking about that recently and hopefully I’ll feel proud of how everything turned out and that the audience enjoyed the show. This is going to be my lastĀ GreekĀ SingĀ as a student, and I couldn’t have imagined a better ending to my fall semester. I’m definitely going to be sad. I’ve truly enjoyed every aspect of this position and being a part of the executive committee.
