Getting Through Quarantine With A Little Help From My Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

None of us imagined this would be our second semester. If you’re like me, you imagined we would be back at college finishing off our freshman year, the best year yet.

Now we hear the devastating news that we will be unable to return to our happy places for a while, but we tried to look on the bright side that we will at least be together. Well, we all thought too soon, and I’m sure you did too.

We all thought being home meant parties everyday and no classes. That’s not exactly what the turnout was, though. Staying home, stuck with our families was not what we expected to happen.

However, we are trying to make the best of it. We all have classes to keep us busy, but that doesn’t stop us from hanging out, even if it is virtually.

We have done cup pong tournaments over zoom, baking together over Facetime and my favorite — Netflix parties.

It sucks, I know it does. But we will get through it. Not knowing when this will end is scary, but one day it will.

Once it’s over, we are never going to take another night out for granted, another ice cream trip, another hangout with friends. One day at a time, we will get through it and be better because of it.

Take it day by day. Exercise, do schoolwork, relax, binge Netflix, catch up on sleep. Organize your room or redecorate. Paint. Do whatever you have always wanted to but you never found the time. Now, you have it.

Some of my friends dyed their hair a fun color, others redid their childhood bedroom.

How are we getting through it, despite all the activities? How are we living with the uncertainty of not knowing when we will be able to see each other again?

The answer is simple — looking forward to having life normal again.
