Fall is Here, and it’s Time to Make Your Autumn Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Autumn is officially here, and what’s not to love?

We get to walk around campus in our comfy sweaters, watch the leaves start to change color and enjoy that fall chill we’ve been waiting all year for. Whether you’re studying for an exam or scouring a pumpkin patch for that perfect Instagram-worthy pumpkin, this playlist has you covered with songs that have that “fall vibe.”

Here you’ll find a list of songs that have that perfect sound for your new playlist. Take a listen to your soundtrack for the next few months: a playlist that captures the essence of autumn.

“Stick Season” by Noah Kahan

This song gives me ultimate fall vibes and it’s been on repeat for weeks. Named after a period of transition in Vermont, when the leaves have left the trees but the snow has yet to come, this song radiates autumn energy.

“Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star

An achingly romantic song to add to your soundtrack to “sad girl autumn.” This song is nostalgic and has a quiet wistfulness that anyone can relate to– perfect for cuffing season.

“Willow” by Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s “evermore” is the epitome of fall, and this lead single is the perfect song to put you in that fall mood.

“If I Could Write” by Sam Phillips

For any “Gilmore Girls” fans out there, this one’s for you: this song will transport you to autumn in the town of Stars Hollow within the first ten seconds.

“Doomsday” by Lizzy McAlpine

Anything Lizzy McAlpine writes can almost automatically be put in this playlist, but specifically this song. “Doomsday” is about the inevitability of something dying, putting it directly into the fall category. The process can be pretty and protected by beautiful things, but the end result is still death; in this case, the death of a relationship.

“From the dining table” by Harry Styles

The entirety of Harry Styles’ first album feels like fall to me, but this song specifically is my autumn go-to song. The lyrics, “Comfortable silence is so overrated / Why won’t you ever say what you want to say? /Even my phone misses your call, by the way,” make the song feel personal and the somber tone of the song feels so autumn.

“American Teenager” by Ethel Cain

In this song off of Cain’s debut album, “Preacher’s Daughter,” Cain expresses her frustration with “all the things the ‘American Teenager’ is supposed to be but never had any real chance of becoming,” as she explains to Pitchfork. This is another perfect upbeat song to add to your soundtrack.

“Feels Like” by Gracie Abrams

The lead single from Gracie Abrams’ debut album, “This is What It Feels Like,” embodies the beauty of meeting a friend at the right time in both your lives. It also embodies autumn and is the perfect soundtrack to all of your fall fun adventures.

“All Too Well (10-minute version) (Taylor’s Version)” by Taylor Swift

How could I not include this iconic song? With the “All Too Well” short film taking place in autumn and the overall instrumental and vibe of the song, it would be a crime to not include one of the most “fall” songs of the year in this list.

“Linger” by The Cranberries

This song is the perfect cross-section between feeling sad and wanting to dance around your dorm room- which makes it perfect for fall in a college town.

Grab your pumpkin-spiced latte from Starbucks, put on your headphones and take a listen to the rest of the Ultimate Autumn Playlist– enjoy!
