We have all had an experience of having too much fun the night before, however there are some things you can do to feel your best quickly. The good news is that recovery doesn’t have to be long or expensive.
With a few easy habits, you can go from drained to refreshed in no time.
Hydration & fuel
After a night out, typically your body is dehydrated and low on nutrients, which is why starting with what you are ingesting is important.
One of the most important things to do first is to hydrate your body. Along with water, coconut water is also a great choice because it’s packed with electrolytes that help your body rehydrate faster.
Fresh juices and fruits can also make a huge difference in how you feel. Berries, bananas and smoothies are all easy on the stomach and packed with vitamins that help boost your energy. These nutrient-rich options also help your skin glow from the inside out.
Recovery for tired faces
Taking care of your skin may be a priority; it may be irritated, dry or dull. This is where some self-care can make a big difference. Facemasks are my personal favorite because they’re quick and easy and are fun to do while making you feel better.
Also, undereye masks are wonderful for reducing puffiness and dark circles, leaving you looking more awake and refreshed.
refresh your muscles
Taking care of your skin is important, but don’t forget your body, a little movement can help you feel even more refreshed after a night out.
You may feel sluggish or stiff; try going for a walk or stretching with a few yoga poses. If you have access to a sauna, it’s a great way to soothe sore muscles and let your body relax. If not, a warm shower or bath works just as well.
Refresh your mind
Giving your mind some love is just as important as helping your body after a night out. Sometimes your thoughts feel scattered, or you may even have a case of “hangxiety.”
A few minutes of journaling can help your thoughts and maybe make you feel less overwhelmed or anxious. Mindful exercises like deep breathing or meditation are perfect for calming your brain and helping you feel more centered.
Recover like alivia
Everything above is super helpful for making you feel better after a night out, but I can’t leave out one of my classic recovery rituals — going out to breakfast with my friends and debriefing about the night before. I also like to call my friends from home to hear all about their weekend.
I really enjoy looking through the photos and videos my friends and I took the night before; it is pure entertainment every time. One of my friends even has a spam account on Instagram where she posts weekend photos, and it’s absolutely hilarious.
Overall, don’t be too hard on yourself after a night out. Recovery is all about giving your mind and body the care they need. The key is to listen to your body and do what feels good for you.
With a bit of intentional self-care you can reset, recharge and take on the day.
