Burning Questions for Season 8 of “Game of Thrones”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Season eight of “Game of Thrones” is almost here everyone! This is not a drill. I repeat this is not a drill. With the last and final season of this amazing show just around the corner I’ve decided to create a list of some of the most important questions I have for what’s going to happen in the final season of GOT, which I’m sure many of you are also dying to know the answers to. Here are some of my most burning questions for season eight “Game of Thrones.”

Who will end up on the Iron Throne?

Most obviously it’s down to the big three. This includes Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister, but really it could be anyone’s game. We all know “Game of Thrones” is down for throwing in some shocking plot twists, so it’s not too far out there to say that any number of other main characters could wind up on the throne. Some fan-favorites include Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister as two other possible contenders for the throne.

Will the dragons survive?

As much as I don’t even want to think about what a “Game of Thrones” without dragons would look like, this is a plausible question. We’ve already lost one dragon to the Night King, which showed us that our lovable, fire breathing and terrifyingly majestic dragons are not as impervious as we all thought.

Is Cersei really going to incidentally help the knight king wipe out the human race?

All because she’s too proud, too cold-hearted or just too stupid to actually fight for the right side, aka the side of the living. Tell me, Cersei, is it really the smartest idea to try to break down the first line of defense between you and the army of the dead? I’m no expert but that doesn’t seem like the best strategy.

Is anyone even going to survive this season?

With such a diverse and expansive cast of characters, “Game of Thrones” has a lot of lovable characters that are going to be facing very bad odds in this upcoming season in terms of survival rates. Most of our favorite characters will be converging on Winterfell to help defend the North, Westeros and pretty much the whole world from an army of the undead. An army of the undead whose numbers just keep growing and which now includes an undead dragon. Like I said, not good odds. This is especially true if you consider “Game of Thrones’” track record of not hesitating to off some of our favorite main characters in past seasons. (*cough* *cough* I’m looking at you red wedding)

Will the Jon and Arya reunion make me cry?

I, as well as many other fans, have been waiting for these two “Starks” to be reunited since season one! It looks like we’re finally getting our wish, seven season later.

Will the lovable red header ginger Tormund Giantsbane finally get his crack at Brienne of Tarth (Westeros’s most terrifyingly awesome female knight)?

And will they make monstrous babies that will take over the world? This is honestly my hardest ship of the entire series. Although Brianna is a tough as hell woman who don’t need no man, I think they would be absolutely killer together, pun intended there.

Honestly what’s going to happen with Jon and Daenerys once they find out they’re related?!

Not only is that going to be a shock for both characters, but there is the possibility that Daenerys is now going to see Jon as a threat to her throne. Daenerys has been fighting for the throne since season one and there is no doubt that she wants to be the sole ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. She has worked too hard and been through too much to just give it up now. While Daenerys’s family has historically been comfortable with incest, that doesn’t mean she’s cool with it, and I can’t imagine Jon will take this bombshell lightly.

What’s going to happen to my girl Daenerys?

Daenerys’s fate, as well as everyone else’s, is really up in the air this season. For Deanery’s in particular I feel like there is a plethora of possibilities in regards to her fate at the end of season eight. In my humble opinion, I basically see four possible outcomes for Dany.

1. She wins the war, gains control of the Iron Throne and rules Westeros as a humble and righteous queen.

2. She ends up marrying Jon and they rule side by side until either of their deaths.

3. Dany loses the war for the Iron Throne, her and Jon splitzies cause incest just isn’t their thing and she goes back to rule the kingdoms she has already conquered, which we know includes cities such as Astapor, Yunkai and Meereen.

4. She dies and untimely and incredibly tragic death. This is by far my least favorite option.

Will Arya complete her kill list?

We’ve been rooting for Arya and her list for a couple seasons now. She can pretty much justify her desire to murder everyone she has on that list because they’re all pretty terrible people who have crossed the wrong girl. Also, let’s be honest, one of the most satisfying moments of the entire series so far was being able to watch Arya cross Walder Frey off her list and then use his face to take revenge on the entire Frey family. Morbid? Yes, but also delightfully gratifying.

Will Cersei FINALLY get what she deserves?

Millions have been rooting for Cersei’s demise for a while now. The woman is just too plain evil to allow her to live through the whole series right? I mean, someone has to give this woman her just desserts, and I for one hope that it is either Arya or a dragon.

Happy watching!
