If you are one of the lucky ones to have your birthday roll around during the school year, you want it to be a memorable evening filled with friends, pictures and the most fun you can pack into one night. But if you’re under 21, this may seem impossible. Not only are your funds limited—by your paycheck or mom and dad’s wallet—but all bars and most clubs are off limits. So what are you to do?

Have a Scavenger Hunt. You can make a list of questions, break up your friends into teams—or go as a big group—and take pictures to prove you completed each challenge item. Not only will this be a funny experience for all involved, but you’ll also have hilarious pictures to look at after.  You can do something silly like have one of the items on be find the funniest costumes in the shop downtown and take a picture strutting around the store in them. Or, you could have both groups try to get five guys’ numbers in 20 minutes without using the words hi, number, and please. The first team to complete all the items on the list wins.

On Campus Concerts:
Thanks to SPA, there is usually some form of concert, comedian, or other fun entertainment events happening on the weekends. So, plan ahead. Always check the dates for the entertainers that are coming to town, and hopefully someone you like will be in the area on your special day.

Go Out Downtown, and don’t forget the birthday girl crown. Gather your closest girl friends and plan a trip downtown to get your nails done in the late afternoon, and then walk over to one of the restaurants, get your favorite meal and be sure to get dessert and have your friends sing “Happy Birthday” to you. You may think you’ll be embarrassed by the singing, but it’s your special day so you should be the center of attention, at least for the song. And don’t forget the crown, because it’s just fun to wear.

Or, the Ultimate Back-Up, Have a Movie Night at your Dorm. When it all comes down to it, any birthday is perfect as long as you spend it with your friends, so do just that. Pick out you and your friends’ favorite movies and have a marathon in one of your rooms/apartments. You can order food, play the hilarious and free truth or dare app on your iPhone during previews and relax and enjoy your birthday. After all, it is these same little moments that made you all such great friends in the first place.

No matter what you do, remember just because you are under 21 does not mean your birthday has to be boring. Go out or stay in, have fun and enjoy it! You only turn 18, 19, and 20 once.
