The time to schedule is upon us, and as helpful as our academic advisors may be, sometimes we just need to hear about the classes from the people who actually took them. Below, a few students share the best class they ever took at Penn State:
HDFS 440 Family Policy (with Kate Hynes)
Shannon Smith, Junior
“I liked it so much because it opened my eyes to the life of poverty, and the disadvantages that those people face every day. It’s not an easy class and it wasn’t everyone else’s favorite, but I feel like I’ve never gotten so much out of a class at Penn State as I did in this class.”
ANTH 045 Cultural Anthropology (with Patricia Johnson)
Jacqueline Till, Sophomore
“The class was unexpectedly interesting and very relevant. She was a very likeable professor, and would often have me leaving class still thinking about the topics. It’s always nice when there’s a Gen Ed that the professor enjoys teaching, but also makes the student enjoy learning.”
HPA 390 Professional Development in Health Policy and Administration (with Richard Shurgalla)
Ryan Stephenson, Junior
“The class was my favorite because it was a professionalism class, so it taught me how to interview, write a resume, all that kind of stuff.”
SOC 406 Sociology of Deviance (with Eric Silver)
Jenny Cifuentes, Junior
“I think the reason I liked it so much was because it taught us about things that aren’t socially acceptable, and because and our professor was so open about everything. He stretched the boundaries of what learning meant.”
HDFS 412 Adult-Child Relationships (with Sherry Corneal)
Danielle Weiss, Junior
“It’s a big therapy session every time you go. She talks about relationships and how they affect your everyday life. It’s very realistic, it’s not theory based. I can relate it to my life.”
THEA 100 The Art of the Theatre (with Rob Schneider)
Matt Williams, Junior
“It was a really fun class because the TA’s were actors, and they did performances at the end of every class. Plus it was super easy.”
