Amanda Dreyer is a sophomore majoring in marketing with a minor in information sciences and technology from Malvern, PA. With only two years under her belt here at University Park, Amanda has already accomplished so much. As the Vice President of Communications for Panhellenic, she is kept super busy with promoting Penn State sororities through social media outlets. When she is not typing or posting away, you can find her helping others at Lion Tutors, or preparing for THON (this weekend!) with her R&R committee. Check out what this inspiring girl does!

HC: First things first, what made you decide to join Greek life when you first came to Penn State, and how did you know Delta Gamma was right for you?

AD: I signed up for rush thinking that I would drop because of the stereotypes surrounding it. My parents were never in a sorority or fraternity, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Once I started rush and began talking to DGs, I loved how down-to-earth and funny they were. Delta Gamma has given me so many opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise and given me a chance to meet some really awesome, inspiring people; for that, I am forever grateful.

HC: Did you hold any positions within Delta Gamma before joining Panhellenic? If so, what were they and what were your responsibilities?

AD: I didn’t hold any positions on my exec board, but I was on the Panhellenic Communications team for the previous VP for Communications, Maddy Marold. I became really involved with it and got to redesign our Panhellenic website!

HC: How did that experience motivate you to want to run for a Panhellenic Council Executive Officer position?

AD: Through being on the communications team, I found that I was just really passionate about social media and the effect it has on our generation; with that, I decided to run for the Panhellenic executive board. I felt qualified and had many new ideas to share with the community. I implemented some new hashtags on our Instagram (shameless plug—check them out!) #PanLions for Penn State related posts, #SisterhoodSpotlights for different events sororities put on that promote our values of leadership, sisterhood, scholarship or service.

HC: How did you know that Vice President of Communications was right for you?

AD: This position really just taps into my passions of social media and graphic design. My major is in marketing and minor is information sciences and technology (IST) so my coursework also further educates me how to be better at reaching my community.

HC: Tell us about some of your responsibilities as Panhellenic Council Vice President of Communications.

AD: I’m in charge of our Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, our website, newsletter and all the media outreach for all Panhellenic events! I also love interacting with chapters and am always open to posting pictures, tweets, Facebook posts etc. to promote individual chapter events as well.

HC: You sound pretty busy! What else are you involved in outside of Greek Life, and what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

AD: I am pretty busy, but I like all the things I’m involved in, which makes it worth it. I’m on a R&R THON committee (shout out We R&R the Millers), and I also work for Lion Tutors! In my free time, I enjoy watching New Girl and Greys Anatomy, and I love to run (when it’s nice out), listen to music, and craft all kinds of things!

HC: Any other big items on your Penn State bucket list?

AD: I want to study abroad next year in Florence, Italy, and travel all over Europe. I was part of an exchange program in Copenhagen, Denmark, when I was in high school and absolutely loved it! So I’m really looking forward to going back and hopefully visiting Paris, Rome and Switzerland. Other than that, I really want to do Nittanyville one year because I love PSU football games and cheering on our Nittany lions

There you have it, collegiates; you’re never too young to accomplish your goals! We’re going to want to keep an eye on this girl to see what else she’ll accomplish in the future.

Carleen is a Senior at Penn State University from Scranton, Pa. She can usually be found in Chambers building studying Early Childhood Education, at Starbucks, Dunkin, Au Bon Pain (litearlly anywhere she can get her coffee fix in), or hanging out with her THON friends! She is also a member of Delta Gamma. She enjoys Netflix, naps, and chipotle. Her dream is to get hired as a Kindergarten teacher after graduation and one day become a mom!
Rachael David is currently a senior at Penn State University and serves as the Campus Correspondent for Her Campus Penn State. She is majoring in public relations and minoring in psychology. Her love of creative writing and all things Penn State is what inspired her to become a member of the HC team in the fall of 2013. Her background experience includes working for the Undergraduate Admissions Office at Penn State as a social media intern in the spring of 2014 and is currently working as a social media intern for an internet marketing company in Harrisburg called WebpageFX. This past summer she also served as a PR intern for Tierney Communications. Rachael enjoys anything media related especially catching up on her favorite shows, including Saturday Night Live and any show on Food Network. She has a passion for food but also loves being active and spending her free time running or hiking. She hopes to gain more experience in all aspects of the media industry during college and plans on pursuing a career writing for a life & style publication in the future.
