7 Ways To Turn Valentine’s Day Into Galentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

You look at your calendar and realize that it’s Feb 14…also known as Valentine’s Day. Maybe you’re single, maybe you’re just ‘hooking up’ with someone, maybe you’re just a ‘weird thing’ that no body understands and spending Valentine’s Day together would be weird. Regardless, you’re alone for Valentine’s Day and are dreading it. Have no fear; make this a day to celebrate your girl friends. Galentine’s Day is officially February 13th, but if you’re feeling extra down on the 14th, why not extend it! Here’s some fun ways to take Valentine’s Day into your own hands.

1. See “Fifty Shades Darker”

If you’re feeling sexually frustrated this Valentine’s Day, Fifty Shades Darker has got you covered. If nothing else, you get to watch Jamie Dornan for two hours and you can pretend he’s your Valentine.

2. Have wine night with your girlfriends

Nothing says girl’s night like wine. Split a bottle, throw on some comfy pajamas and pop on a romantic comedy and you’re ready to go.

3. Have a spa day

Bring out the extra-girly makeover things you used to do as a kid—all the things that you would never be caught dead doing if a guy was around. We’re talking facemasks, painting your nails, and doing each other’s hair and makeup. You probably forgot how fun it is.

4. Watch all your favorite Rom-Coms

I’m a sucker for romantic comedies. Even if you hate love and romance, these can give you at least a little hope that things might turn around. I suggest “13 Going on 30,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” or any of the “Sex and the City” movies.

5. Go out to a nice dinner

Who says you need a date to go out to a nice dinner on Valentine’s Day? Get your girl friends together and get all dressed up and get a nice meal together. You deserve it.

6. Bake something sweet

After your nice dinner date, change into pajamas and bake some cute Valentine’s Day themed treats.

7. Make cute crafts

There are so many fun DIY crafts on Pinterest to make or you could simply make cute Valentine’s Day cards for each other. You could get construction paper, glitter, and paper doilies and you can make fun party favors explaining how happy you are to have each other as your Galentine.

Happy Galentine’s Day, collegeiettes!
