Well Staters, we’ve made it through the first two weeks and are only a few more days away from returning to home sweet Happy Valley. There’s no denying the break was much needed but around this time is when most of us have reached our breaking points. We’ve exhausted our Netflix accounts, watched every Friends episode that ever aired and now spend our days reminiscing about daylongs and tailgates. This week will be a true test of our sanity and the best way to avoid the PSU blues is by keeping ourselves distracted. Here are 5 things you can do to make it through the last week of winter break:
1. Buy a sylly week outfit – There’s no better way to get excited for the first week back than buying a brand new outfit. A new semester means new impressions, new people and new parties, which are more than enough excuses to treat ourselves to a little retail therapy. Besides, it’s been awhile since your guy last saw you and there’s no better way to show him what he’s been missing than a little black dress and some matching pumps. Time to use up those Christmas gift cards, ladies – it’s sylly week time.
2. Attempt a Pinterest recipe – I don’t know about you guys, but I have no problem admitting I have an unhealthy addiction to Pinterest. With adorable outfits, fitness tips and endless recipes, what’s not to like? I’m guilty of pinning at least 5 new recipes a day, and yet, I’ve probably attempted about 5 of them. If any of you are in this same boat, this week will be the perfect time to actually make use of the 285 pins you have on your “Yum” board. Maybe there’s one that you know might take a little bit of time, or uses equipment you don’t have in your apartment; well, whip out your apron and preheat the oven because these next few days will be the perfect time to attempt them. There’s a decent chance it’ll end up in total disaster, but then you’ll have a hilarious pic stitch to look back on when your adorable minion cupcakes turn out looking more like gremlins.

3. Make some apartment art – Yet another activity you can find plenty of inspiration for on Pinterest. There are hundreds of DIY arts and crafts projects out there that will use up some time without using up your wallet. Search for “dollar tree crafts” or “cheap apartment art” and you’re bound to find tons of ideas that will be a great addition to your State College apartment or on-campus dorm. So bring out that inner creativity and get a little artsy. Your roomies will love you for it.
4. Take a trip to NYC – Who doesn’t love NYC? There’s no better way to spend a day than grabbing some girlfriends, packing the car and heading off to the city that never sleeps. There’s always something going on, and the hardest decision you’ll have to make is where to start. Lucky for you, we have just the thing. Trend Tribe, a top-knotch accessories company that provides college women real world experience in fashion and entrepreneurship, will be hosting College Night Out this Thursday, January 8th at the Wix Lounge on 235 West 23rd Street. This event will include a “Life After College” panel featuring industry leaders, a trunk show and free goodies. The night will be a fabulous opportunity for future young professionals, and you can consider this your official HC invitation. You’re welcome, collegiettes.
5. Spend time with loved ones – Chances are we’ve all done a lot of this already, but there’s no better way to spend some free time than by making memories with the people we love most. It’s easy to take time for granted when we’re given so much of it at once, but the moment we get back to school and realize our friends and family aren’t right there with us, it won’t take long for the homesickness to kick in. So call up the childhood friend you haven’t talked to in awhile, see what your sibling is doing and offer to cook dinner for the fam. You won’t regret it.
