The change of seasons always gives me the desire to buy a whole new wardrobe. Especially for the summer months, the temptation to buy all new bathing suits, dresses and tank tops is strong every year.

But in the name of saving our wallets, it’s best to determine the needs for each season. The pieces you gravitate to every day, and can wear in practically any situation.

Here are the five pieces I’m adding to my cart to prepare for summer.

A Cute Pair of Sunglasses

Sunglasses are the most versatile accessory. If you buy a pair now, you can wear them during your spring-time walks, summer beach days, and even into fall football games.

While you could spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of sunglasses, it’s definitely not necessary. Pairs from Amazon can range from $10-$15 and have lasted me years.

A Long White Skirt

Summer is the perfect time to wear all the flowy clothes that can help keep you cool. A long white skirt is so versatile.

There are dozens of options for this out there in a wide variety of price ranges. This one from Edikted I love, and has been the perfect piece for a summer concert, dinner or beach day.

A Denim Skirt

When the jean skirt started to become popular about a year ago, I was extremely skeptical of it. For some reason, all it reminded me of was wearing a jean skirt when I was a toddler.

However, I eventually got over that predisposition and bought my own, and I have to admit I love it. It is again, extremely versatile and although I bought it for the summer, I wore it long into the fall months.

I have this skirt from Abercrombie, which I absolutely love. It is the perfect length, being short enough it’s cute, but not so short you can’t wear it to a family dinner.

Birkenstocks

Birkenstocks are the summer shoe. You can wear them absolutely anywhere, and they complement any kind of outfit, casual or fancier.

They are the most comfortable shoes, as they mold directly to your feet. Although they are a bit on the pricier side, the quality is unmatched, and they will last you years.

I have the classic Arizona ones, which I wear to the beach and with absolutely anything. They have lasted me three years now. If you’re someone who’s not the biggest flip-flop fan, Birkenstock is the perfect in-between shoe for summer.

A Good Hair Clip

Summer is the season of needing your hair up at all times. Whether because it’s too hot or too windy at the beach, I always feel like I need my hair out of my face.

Claw clips have been all the rage for the last few years, and for good reason. It’s the perfect in between of having your hair up without having a full slick back bun.

The Emi Jay “Big Effing Clip” has been trending recently, and for good reason. Everyone who has it swears it holds their hair up better than anything they’ve ever tried before. However, it is $36– an insane price for a claw clip.

If $36 is simply too much to spend on a claw clip, I also swear by claw clips from Target. It has grippy material inside and holds my hair very well.

If you, too, are fighting the urge to do a full closet reset, I hope these give you a few basics that you can use all summer long.
