The Penn State THON 2027 executive committee announced the 2027 THON Weekend theme, “Where Our Imagination Shines,” at the start of the annual homecoming parade Friday night.
THON is the largest student-powered philanthropy in the world, and brings awareness to childhood cancer. Students at Penn State fundraise throughout the year, and their efforts culminate in a 46-hour no-sleeping, no-sitting dance marathon.
THON’s 2027 executive committee shared their collective vision behind the theme.
“THON is a place where kids can be kids,” the committee said. “We imagine a world where one day no parent has to hear the words, ‘your child has cancer.’ A world where we are dancing in celebration of a cure. The THON
community comes together year after year, sharing this collective vision. And with that imagination
carrying us forward, we are proud to share that the theme for THON 2027 is ‘Where Our Imagination
Shines.'”
In 2026, THON set a new fundraising record with $18,841,726.53 raised For The Kids during “Love Leads Forward.” Since Penn State and Four Diamonds began partnering in 1977, the pair has raised over $237 million.
In March, Lauren Mellas was named the THON 2027 Executive Director. Previously, she served as the Public Relations-Digital Content director for THON 2026. Recently, Mellas shared her thoughts on the upcoming year.
“I imagine a world where THON is a household name across the country,” Mellas said. “But that vision starts here in our own backyard. There are still communities in Pennsylvania that have yet to discover what THON is. However, we have an opportunity to change that. By spreading our hope and mission throughout the commonwealth, we are building a future where one day everyone in the world will know the impact of THON.”
Mellas will look to break another fundraising record during THON Weekend 2027, which will take place in the Bryce Jordan Center from Feb. 19-21, 2027.
