Valentine’s Day isn’t a one-size-fits-all holiday, especially on a college campus like Penn State. Some students look forward to celebrating with partners, while others spend the day focused on classwork or time with friends. With busy schedules, academic or relationship pressure and social media full of romantic posts, the holiday supposedly filled with love and happiness can bring mixed emotions for many students.

Small pick-me-ups and moments of self-care can help make Valentine’s Day feel a little lighter, no matter how it’s spent. Here are my top 10.

Tokyo Sushi and Hibachi

Looking for a new place to grab some comfort food? Well, here is your new go-to spot. Whether it’s hibachi, sushi rolls or takeout after a long day of classes, Tokyo Sushi and Hibachi is an easy pick-me-up that feels like a special treat.

Galentine’s Day with your BFFs

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples. Galentine’s Day is about celebrating friendships. Grab your best friends for a movie night, dinner or a cozy night in with snacks. Spending time with the people who know you best can make the day feel more welcoming.

Bake Something Sweet

Whether it’s boxed brownies or heart-shaped cookies, baking with friends or even by yourself is a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day without spending much. For those still living in dorms, decorating cookies is a good alternative when you do not have access to a kitchen or ingredients.

Go for a Walk in the Arboretum

Step away from the rest of campus and enjoy a relaxing walk through the Penn State Arboretum, even in winter. It’s a peaceful spot to clear your mind and get some fresh air. Enjoy a quiet Valentine’s pick-me-up between classes, especially with your favorite playlist on blast.

2,000 Degrees of Love

Whether you’re celebrating solo, with friends or with a partner, 2,000 Degrees is the perfect place to get creative. This Downtown State College ceramic studio lets you paint pottery at your own pace. It’s a low-pressure, feel-good activity that makes for a memorable Valentine’s Day.

Movie Marathon, Your Way

Whether you’re watching alone, with friends or with a partner, a movie night is an easy Valentine’s pick-me-up. Grab your favorite snacks, cozy up in your dorm or apartment and choose a comfort movie or rom-com. Sometimes a familiar favorite is all you need to unwind.

Make a Valentine’s Day Care Package

Put together a small care package for yourself or someone you care about. Fill it with snacks, notes and little reminders of home. It’s a simple way to show love to yourself or someone else.

DIY Love Lab

If you love DIY crafts, here’s an idea. Make something meaningful: a scrapbook of memories, a handwritten letter, a playlist or even DIY Valentine’s cards. Single? Make it for yourself or your friends. Partnered? Make it together. It’s a fun bonding activity.

Galentine’s Day Dinner

Host a playful Galentine’s dinner with your friends, complete with tasty bites, sweet treats and sparkling drinks. Make it Valentine’s-themed with cute decorations, festive place settings and heart-shaped bites and themed desserts. Whether you head out to a restaurant or cook at home, enjoy good food, laughter and maybe even some cute Instagram pictures.

Cupid’s Adventure Night

Turn Valentine’s Day into an adventure. Plan a night full of surprises, including a themed scavenger hunt around campus or your home and fun challenges. Maybe visit some spots from freshman year where you made memories. Whether you’re single or partnered, it’s all about creating memorable moments. End the night with music, a movie and some sweet snacks.

Valentine’s Day at Penn State doesn’t have to look the same for everyone, remember it’s not always one size fits all. Whether you’re celebrating with friends, a partner or enjoying some much-needed self-care after the start of the semester, there are plenty of ways to make the day special.

From cozy nights in and creative projects to walking around campus, these ideas are all about spreading a little love, no matter how you spend Feb. 14. So pick your favorite, gather your friends (or just yourself) and make this Valentine’s Day one to remember!
