One of the biggest topics in the world right now is Donald Trump’s impeachment inquiry, and for good reasons. Nancy Pelosi, who is the speaker of the United States House of Representatives has announced a formal impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump. The announcement was made last week because there were reports that he possibly abused his power and tried to get help from a foreign government (Ukraine) to sabotage former VP Joe Biden, who is actually currently the Democratic favorite, just to help Trump’s re-election.

The rumor currently is that Trump had a phone call during the summertime with the Ukrainian President named Volodymyr Zelensky. There was a released document and summary of the call from the White-House. The call involved him asking the Ukrainian President to help investigate Biden. The reason why Trump started the whole investigation is because Biden withheld funds from the Ukraine while he was in office because of the idea that his son was working for a corrupt company and they wanted another corrupt prosecutor fired. The only difference is that the government knew that he was holding funds from the government, but Trump thought he would find out more from this situation. It was also investigated because Trump aloso started withholding funds from the Ukraine government because he wanted to prove that Biden had withheld funds in the Ukraine, and get proof from them.
Trump ordered his advisors to freeze $400 million in military aid for Ukraine, which made people speculate that he was using that money as a tool to get information on Biden. Trump has tried to deny the charge, but he stated that he blocked the funds, which the block was later released. The Trump-Ukraine call was a part of a whistle blower’s complaint that was released last week. A whistle blower (if you don’t know) is a person who informs on a person or organization engaged in an illicit activity. There was also another whistleblower that came forward about Donald Trump and said he tried to get the Ukrainian president to investigate Joe Biden as well.
So far, these are the current updates. The process for impeachment is long and tedious, and could go on for some time. During an impeachment, a trial has to take place. Impeachment does not in itself remove the official from office, but it is a statement of charges against the official, which could result in him losing his position. Any official convicted by the Senate is then immediately removed from the office.
This whole situation happened close to election time as well, which doesn’t look good for Donald Trump in the long run. If he is convicted, he will not be able to run for the next election, which makes a huge step for the Democrats!
