Instagram Aesthetics You Should Know About

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PS Behrend chapter.

When I first came to college, a girl once asked me what my follower ratio was. I genuinely had no clue what she meant- People cared about how many people they follow versus how many people follow them?! I follow people like it’s my day job- I love following beautiful people on Instagram. I follow at least one person every time I open Instagram and my follower ratio is about 200 followers to 3,000 I follow (give or take a few). I love drawing inspiration from looks I see, whether that be style, interior design, or picture effect.

Here’s a few accounts that I love the aesthetic of:

Arden Rose, @ardenrose

Arden Rose is the reason I’m completely in flux with my bangs. She’s very Zooey Deschanel adjacent; A more post-2015 Zooey Deschanel. I love her style, and her color scheme is beautiful.

Plus! She has an art page @ardzdooz that’s equally as cute. She showcases her art that has a really playful feel.

I found her through Tik Tok if we’re being honest. She has such a fun style, and she goes to Kent State for fashion design which is a bit closer to home than most influencers. She also posts a lot in New York City, and seeing those posts makes me miss the city so much. She has a brighter, funkier aesthetic. I think the maximalism of her color scheme is really appealing.

She has a second account, @francescasfits, that is dedicated to her outfits which I similarly love. I tend to go for more basic looks, but seeing her different pieces inspires me to look for bolder pieces when I shop.

Ilaina Ruth, @ilaina.ruth

I’m not sure if I like her aesthetic or if I just think she’s really beautiful (or both). She’s a model that I found after falling into an Instagram, trap clicking from one profile to the next. Her style is bit edgier, and she’s the reason I am constantly growing out the bangs I had chopped after being inspired by Arden Rose.

Jenna, @jennallard

I found her profile because she’s the girlfriend of a viner I used to follow (who now has a YouTube channel) Kurtis Conner. I love the way she goes from super feminine and sexy to really paired down and natural. Her style, in general, gives me a lot of inspiration, and although we have two different styles of tattoos, I love the way she’s placed and chosen her tattoos. She’s also really funny!

Regardless of how many people I follow, I am always finding more people whose profile I enjoy. I pledge to never be able to watch all of the Instagram stories on my home page at one time.
