I Watched the Netflix Series: “The Witcher” and Here’s What I Thought

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PS Behrend chapter.

This past semester of college was crazy. I was constantly going homework or studying for an upcoming exam. I never had free time, and when I manage to find a small amount of time I tried to fill it with working out or cleaning my things. Over winter break I finally felt like I had the time I needed to catch up on my netflix and TV shows. I also had the time to start a new series that I have heard so many people rave about, “The Witcher”.

“The Witcher” is originally based on the book that was written by Andrzej Sapkowiski, and from there it was turned into a best selling video game. I have not read nor played the video game but from some strange reason this show seemed so appealing to me. My boyfriend always tried to get me to watch “Game of Thrones” because him and I find Medieval Times fascinating, but it seem like too long of a series that I just did not want to get into.

When I heard good reviews about “ The Witcher” I was so excited to watch the first season. Overall I really enjoyed watching this series. I thought the characters were well played and the story line really exciting. One thing that I was fond of in the show was how interesting the story got from episode 1. Right from the start you wanted to binge watch the whole series just to figure out what happened next.

I heard from a few people that this show was a bit confusing and hard to understand. One thing I will say that took me a little bit to figure out was that the show switched from current time in the show, to years back. It was hard for me to pick up on as they do not tell you that that is occuring, but once I figured it out the show made so much more sense to me. Also if I was confused about an episode I would go online and read up on what happened, just incase I missed something.

One thing I will say about the show that I was disappointed in (without giving away spoilers) was the lack of monster and gobbling fighting scenes. Even though I didn’t play video games, I knew that a large chuck of the game was these fight scenes that I wish would have been portrayed more in the show. Overall though I was really impressed with the layout of the show. I am so excited for the next season and I feel that they laid it out perfectly for another great season with another great storyline. I really would recommend this show even if you are not into the whole witches and warlock vibe, it is a super interesting and action pack show.
