It’s that time of year again. The wonderful month of February where all the stores are stocked with valentine day gifts and decor. It’s all fun and games when you’re taken…well maybe not. That valentines day stuff is overpriced and cheesy actually.

So ha! couples, enjoy your empty wallets. Now, us single people, we have all the money to treat ourselves. I don’t know about you but I am hyped about February 15th, with all the discounted chocolate and candy. But I mean who isn’t? Although, not everyone is hyped about Valentine’s Day. Single people are typically a little bitter on this day. BUT WE SINGLE FOLKS SHOULDN’T BE. Like I mentioned before, we will have fat wallets and discounted candy on the 15th. Well, now that I think about it, actually having fat wallets as college students is kind of hard to have but at this point, I’m just rambling. So, let’s get to the point of this article.

What do we singles do on valentines day with all the sick lovers around us? I mean I have Lysol in my one hand like Sheldon from the Big Bang theory to avoid all those sick germs. Others, well I don’t know. Some people hang out with their best friends. Girls with their girls is Galentine’s day which is fun. But then you have to go out and do things which is a lot of work…but hey you do you boo. So this is just some suggestions on what to do on the wonderful independence day of being single.

Movies to watch:

  • The Notebook (2004): I mean it is no surprise this is on the list. It is a little sappy but I mean com’on, young and hot Ryan Gosling man. I don’t think this could be a valentine’s day movie list without including this movie.

  • The Time Traveler’s Wife (2009): Another chick flick with Rachel McAdams. I mean any chick flick with Rachel McAdams is going to be good. This movie might be more eventful than the Notebook in terms of the plot but hey, it’s a good watch.

  • The Fault in our Stars (2014): Oh another chick flick. You see a sequence? But I mean can we talk about how dreamy Ansel Elgort is? I mean that’s a plus to watching the movie but we all know how good the movie is.

  • Water for Elephants (2011): Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson? Say no more.

  • To All the Boys I’ve loved Before (2018): I mean this is a given. Such a cute story line and I mean, Noah Centineo. Like woah woah woah, do I need to say more?

  • Twilight (2008): Alright I’m sure we all loved this movie as pre-teens and teenagers but if you rewatch the first movie now, it’s kinda bad. The acting is kinda awkward and you wonder how you used to loooovve the movie series. Wait, is that just me? But it’s a classic and cringy-ness is perfect for this day.

And the 5000000 other chick flicks you can watch for this day (and pretty much any other day), but those are some of the ones that will get you on the 14th. But if you don’t have time for that, you can look up pictures of Noah Centineo, Ryan Gosling, and Ansel Elgort I guess.

Albums to listen to:

  • Thank You, Next – Ariana Grande (2019): This is a given too. I mean come on V day, thank you, next.

  • Trilogy- The Weekend (2012): This is one of his first albums, but it’s good. The smooth and catchy beats and some heartfelt lyrics can really get us singles.

  • Lemonade- Beyoncé (2016): I mean come on. “Hold Up” in particular, ugh what a good jam. I will always bow down to the Queen.

  • Ctrl- SZA (2017): Like The Weekend album, this is a smooth album too. My personal favorite tracks is “Go Gina”, “The Weekend”, “Drew Barrymore”, but the whole album is good.

  • Melodrama- Lorde (2017): This whole album is a work of art. She had a particular song on the album called “Liability” that can really speak to some of us singles on this day.

And there are so many more albums, but these ones I will be listening to in particular. Probably tragic that I didn’t include Taylor Swift but I mean, you can find her albums by just typing in relationship songs/albums I’m sure. Plus, I’m sure everyone else will be playing those songs.

Treat yourself:

Get your favorite drink to watch all these movies. I’ll personally reach for a vanilla coke or a cream soda. Those are my guilty pleasure drinks. As for food, get what you want again. We will not be counting calories my friend on the 14th or the 15th (when we will be binge eating all the discount chocolate and candy). That would just be a sin. I’ll probably be munching on chinese or maybe moes. We’ll see.

Also, put on a face mask and hair mask. Fully indulge in the day. I mean if your old enough, reach for the wine. Or at least this is what they made single people do in tv shows and movie and it looks relaxing. Besides, clean out your pores and make your hair all shiny and soft.

Have some spare cash? Book a massage! The semester really started to kick in and the stress is building up in us. Getting a massage will get rid of some of the tension that has been building up. And this is not sponsored but Massage Envy does have an introductory price of $55 for your first massage (60 minutes). The staff is really nice there and it is so relaxing and $55 is the best bucks I spent in an hour since home girl had a loooot of tension.

And while we are at the topic of pleasure, let’s talk about sex toys. We need that relief too! Or if you don’t, man you have will power. But for the rest of us, we have many options. Amazon is a great option since it’s discreet packaging, fast with prime, you can read reviews, get a good product for as low as $15 and you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own house. Win-Win!

Now don’t be mopping around this Feb 14. You do you boo and live your life. After all, it’s another day. And the next day is wonderful with all the sales. So sit back, have the Lysol by your side, and enjoy this independence day you wondering single lass/lads out there.
