As some of you may have seen, the internet has been abuzz about the new show on Max. “The Pitt” surrounds one singular E.R. shift in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The entire season is one shift, with each episode being one hour in the day. It follows not just the doctors and patients but support staff such as nurses, a social worker, and even the ward clerk.
The season ends on April 8th. Despite being exclusive to a streaming service, Max is going back to a one episode at a time release. This might sound very Generation Z of me, but it’s a little bit of a throwback.
All that background to say, I am obsessed with “The Pitt”, and here is why:
Classic tv is back
In the past couple years, I don’t really think that there has been a slam-dunk show put out. Don’t get me wrong, there has been shows that I have watched and liked, but few that I loved.
“The Pitt” is helping the movement of single release episodes. With that, it is bringing back the excitement and emotion of waiting for a new episode to be out. In the past five years or so, we have had entertainment at our fingertips. And we still do, but isn’t it so fun to wonder what the next episode will be like? Getting left on a cliffhanger and thinking about it all week is something that we are not familiar with. But things are better when we have to wait for them, it makes it more exciting.
It also stretches out the viewing experience. Until the full season is released in April, you can’t sit down and watch the entire season in one day. That fact makes it more interesting, because you are left to think about what you just watched after every episode.
A real portrayal of healthcare
“The Pitt” is getting its flowers for being an accurate representation of what the world of healthcare and emergency medicine is like in 2025. Not just because of the accurate gore (which there is a good amount of) but because of how they represent the state of the E.R.
Especially post COIVD, healthcare has changed a lot. People are more stressed and more aggressive, the system is understaffed, and E.R.’s are more crowded overall. The show represents what it is like to be in that environment and how messed up the system is. My dad, a paramedic, can’t even watch because it is too real.
last thoughts
“The Pitt” proves that we can be literally so back at anytime. And TV just happens to be so back. Watch “The Pitt”!!!
