Spring has sprung. In the college world, the weather exceeding 60 degrees (or 50, if you’re a New Englander…) symbolizes the beginning of finals, sitting out on the lawn, and ‘summer’ vacation nearing, a bittersweet break that always comes much too soon. It is easy to allow the end-of-year excitement to pull us away from our responsibilities. While warm weather promises a new season, coursework and exams only increase in momentum. We all have work that needs to be done and feel there is not enough time to do it. An agenda is an extremely useful tool to stay organized, stress-free, and more available. I have provided a few benefits of agendas to prove they can help balance school and soaking up springtime with friends.

So many of us could “find more time” if we scheduled our tasks and our time more effectively

ORGANIZATION

The home-stretch workload is tedious. The required assignments, meetings, and calls mesh into countless mental tasks. This is where an agenda comes into play: listing out what needs to be done clarifies your goals. Not only can you see your daily to-dos all in one place, but there is an extra sense of fulfillment in marking them down. While you could use an online planner, I personally prefer a physical one (especially from Target), for I find great satisfaction in crossing off completed tasks with a handwritten check mark. If you keep all these duties jumbled in your brain, their weight feels overwhelming. Listing them out and physically seeing them is much less intimidating.

PRODUCTIVITY

The importance of productivity does not just apply to schoolwork. As young adults, we have many tasks outside the classroom and around campus, like sports or exercise, clubs, socializing, or calling family members. Planners help you stay on track. Owning an agenda is encouraging in itself: it is proof you are pushing yourself to move throughout your day efficiently, and the first step in accomplishing your goals. Managing your time effectively will result in more space in your schedule to relax and enjoy your lively campus.

STRESS RELIEF

All of these important factors will ease your busy mind and allow you to cherish every moment with friends as the year wraps up. Springtime is busy, but that doesn’t mean it has to be stress-ridden. Facing looming obligations head-on is the best way to get them done. College flies by at a scary rate, so enjoying every moment possible is imperative. Prioritizing your work and responsibilities with the end-of-year activities as your motivator will get you to the finish line that much faster. College isn’t all about work, so getting it done efficiently will provide you with the social experiences before summer that you deserve. Get planning so you can start tanning!
