Awards season is here. It started a few weeks ago with the Emmy’s and continued last night with MTV”s Video Music Awards. Here is HC Providence’s recap of the show

red carpet

My favorite look of the night was Normani. She looked like a bronze statue and that fabric was just painted on her body in the most perfect way. The slick back hair and makeup went perfectly with it.

I think we have to pour one out for Taylor Swift’s look. It was simple, but I do like the black and silver with the blunt bang. But I also say this as a Life of a Showgirl apologist.

I also enjoyed Belmont Camelli’s little denim look. It was a little casual for the VMA’s in my opinion, but I understand what he was going for and see the vision. Frankly, he’s cute enough that he can wear whatever.

Unfortunately, my least favorite look of the night was Troye Sivan. What was going on there? He needed to pull a Coco Chanel and take one item off. If either the feathers or the collar or the silk was gone it would have been a very successful outfit. It just had one too many elements.

awards

I don’t think there were any major snubs. Sienna Spiro was deserving of Best New Artist, her album was great. I did think that “stupid song” should have won Song of the Summer. I love Ariana Grande as much as the next girl, but I really don’t think that was anyones song of the summer.

The non-pop categories were pretty nor controversial. I would have gone with Kacey Musgrave’s “Dry Spell” for Best Country, but we all knew “Choosin’ Texas” was going to win. But Hip Hop, R&B, and Latin were all easy money for the winners.

Overall, I think the VMA’s did well this year. It is never the most important award show, but a fun watch nonetheless!
