10 Things to Do This Fall Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Providence chapter.

  1. Go to the beach

We go to school in a state that has some of the best beaches in New England… Take advantage of it! If you don’t have a car on campus, you can get pretty much anywhere on the RIPTA.

  2. Go to WaterFire

WaterFire is a pretty cool thing to do that you can’t do anywhere else. WaterFire is this event that happens on Saturday nights and boats go around lighting fires along the Providence River. You could grab a bite before or after and have a night out with your friends.

  3. Do homework on Slavin Lawn

It’s only going to continue to be nice out for a little while more. Make sure you soak up the last bit of sun while getting your Civ reading done.

  4. Go to Westminster St.

Westminster St. is so underrated and I don’t understand why. Personally, I would rather go to Westminster over Thayer any day. The shops are so much more unique and there is still good food. Make sure you check out Providence Coal Fire Pizza and Malted Barley.

  5. Get a Wednesday Milkshake at McPhail’s

I don’t care what anyone else says, McPhail’s milkshakes are bomb and most importantly, they are only $2 on Wednesdays. You just can’t beat that.

  6. Listen to WDOM 91.3

I really don’t think I need to go into much detail here… I hear the Princesses of Pop might have a show again. Support your fellow Friars’ radio shows!

  7. Go to Federal Hill

Pasta is the root of all happiness. You definitely should head over to Federal Hill while it is still nice out so you can enjoy your chicken parm with linguine on the Andino’s patio or by the fountain at Venda Ravioli.

  8. Run the Friar 5K

I know that cardio is hardio but 3ish miles is not that bad. Plus, it is a really good justification for that yuck truck you’re going to get later.

  9. Apple Picking

If you have access to a car you should definitely go apple picking with your friends this fall. It’s so much fun, you can take really cute Instagram pictures together, and eat cider donuts! Then when all of the fun is over, you can make apple crisp together or an apple pie. The fun is almost never ending with this one.

  10. Go to the Roger Williams Zoo

The zoo on its own is typically fun but what is even more fun about the Roger Williams Zoo is that they have a Jack-O-Lantern festival at the zoo happens around Halloween. Each year they have a different theme so if you’ve already been you are still able to enjoy it on a level that goes deeper than “it’s tradition”.

Megan McGunigle is a Political Science and English double major at Providence College. On campus, Megan is involved with WDOM the student run radio station, Club Figure Skating and the organization Generation Citizen. Generation Citizen helps to civically engage students in local middle schools and high schools. She also enjoys ice cream, chocolate, and pizza. Her dream job would be working as a journalist in Washington D.C. to write about all the country's political happenings.
