Review: Beanfields Chips

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Princeton chapter.

So…who doesn’t love Doritos or flavored tortilla chips? Now…who doesn’t like a HEALTHIER and TASTY alternative to those chips? Through the Her Campus Princeotn Summer Slimdown program, I’ve been sent wonderful samples to try, but I definitely plan to purchase Beanfields Tortilla Chips as soon as I get back in the states!

They are full of flavor and don’t make me feel groggy (like after munching on a whole bag of potato chips!). And I also feel satisfied after eating a small bag of them. They really do remind me of chips like Doritos or Tostitos, only much much much healthier. They are gluten-free too!

Best of all, the chips taste amazing with homemade guacamole dip…check out my recipe!

Recipe
I thought this was appropriate since the Beanfield Chips inspired me to make an avocado dip…which taste amazing together. I think guacamole has become my new queso. It is EXTREMELY easy to make, tasty and goes with plenty of foods! Here’s the less than 10 minute authentic recipe…with the advice from my roommate who is Mexican American and got the recipe from her mom!

Ingredients
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1/2 red onion, minced (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1-2 serrano chiles, stems and seeds removed, minced
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro (leaves and tender stems), finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh lime or lemon juice (optional to keep the guac from browning…but if you don’t have any, put the avocado pits in the dip to prevent browning!)
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
  • A dash of freshly grated black pepper
  • 1/2 ripe tomato, seeds and pulp removed, chopped

Directions
Using a fork…mash all the ingredients together! Add chiles, cilantro, salt and pepper to taste :)
