Every Princeton collegiette should know about Rosana, a store located conveniently near another Princeton sweet spot—The Bent Spoon. If you’ve been by Rosana (and if you haven’t, you definitely should stop by) it is different from the other stores in Palmer Square such as the iconic J. Crew. This difference comes from the experiences of Rosana (the shop owner) and her eye for fashion.
Rosana spent ten years in Los Angeles as a personal stylist for celebrities. Of course, when Rosana told us this we had to hear some names. She dressed Eminem for a music video (just before he became super huge in the rap game), Magic Johnson for a basketball commercial, Lionel Richie, Eve the rapper, and the Black Eye Peas which Rosana told us is her “favorite band of all time.”
Luckily for us, Rosana moved back to Princeton. With the crummy weather we’re facing now, we have to wonder—why would she move back here? What’s was going through her mind? The answer puts everything back into perspective: Rosana moved back to Princeton so that her family would be closer to her husband’s New York Office.
Rosana’s move wasn’t so much as a transplant but a return to her roots. Rosana is a Princeton native and Pennington Prep alum.
With her fashion experience in sunny Los Angeles, Rosana said, “I saw a need for a really cool clothing store that was stylish, different, and affordable.” These reasons are essentially why Rosana opened the store that has filled a void in the Princeton fashion community.
As we’d expect, Rosana is popular with Princeton University students along with all demographics of high school students due to Rosana’s affordability and difference from other stores in Princeton.
Why is Rosana so different from the other Princeton shops?
“I’ve been told that I have a great eye for fashion, but it comes as second nature,” Rosana said. Rosana looks at clothes from all over the world: new designers and small designers alike. She incorporates what she likes into her store, and from here originates the eclectic taste featured in Rosana.
August of 2010, Rosana began an original line. She started with dresses for the fall line, and these dresses did quite well. A customer favorite was a LBD of $150. Rosana made a lot of these LBDs and of course sold of lot. In addition, Rosana made custom dresses for women who don’t fit the typical sizes on the rack.
For Spring (the season quickly approaching) Rosana has new dresses out on the market that you must check out. Take a break from the books and take a look at the line that Rosana describes to be “not trendy but timeless.”
