Faithful readers of HC Princeton, you know (all too well) that I am an Etsy addict and advocate. There is no better place to shop than the innumerable Etsy shops. Etsy shopping is the most inexpensive way to have a unique wardrobe. We aren’t celebrities, and on a college student budget we can’t afford custom Versace pieces and the like.  For the fashion-forward collegiette, Etsy is the way to go and I am happy to share one of my newest Etsy finds with all of you!

First note: Etsy is not only for gourmet cookies, accessories, and vintage apparel. Nail polish lovers, you can find unique and underrated polishes on Etsy as well. Today I will be featuring the Esty store windestine.

windestine is the Etsy mini polish shop that specializes in glittery nail polish for the extra dose of glamour. Mini polish? Is that for real? Yes: each polish is just slightly over two inches in size.

Collection Reviewed: Shimmery Glitter Collection
This collection is made up of four fantastic shimmery polishes that look (take my word for it) fantastic in the sunlight. The polishes are not named but under the product description, these polishes are a) Gold and holographic glitter b) Red and holographic glitter c) Purple and holographic glitter and d) Blue and holographic glitter.
For the sake of this article, these polishes will be respectively called gold, red, purple, and blue.

Second note: Please ignore all sloppiness of the at-home manicures. And as I promised my mum, the blue owl ring is hers—I’m not that stylish.

Red: Two Coats

Blue: Two Coats

Gold: Three Coats

Purple: Two Coats

The Review
Painting with glitter polish requires taking care to allow each coat to dry adequately before adding another (as glitter polish can easily become ‘goopy’ for lack of a better word). This is quite obvious with a couple of nails for the gold polish picture.

Although the polish colors appear strong in the bottle, due to the consistency, this color does not transcribe to the nails. Red and Blue are the exceptions, as I found these colors to look fantastic and accurately match the bottle, with only two coats. Purple and Gold are much lighter. For best results, three-four coats for purple and gold are suggested. However I provided purple with two coats and gold with three.  However, glitter polish is prone to goopiness with each additional coat, so be careful.

I found the blue and red to be my favorite of the polishes. I can definitely see myself wearing red and blue on a regular basis. Although purple and gold can standalone with the addition of more coats, I can’t see myself putting in the effort. As an alternative, you may want to use a solid base coat (I suggest black) and then paint over the solid color of any of the Shimmery Glitter polishes.  The glitter over black would be extremely fun, chic, and perfect for a nigh out.

The shades of the glitter polishes are quite unique. I’ve always wanted more pastel/ lighter glitter polishes to add to my collection (I have very dark gold already) and in the case of the red polish and blue polish this search has come to an end (finally!). Nonetheless, the gold and purple are beautiful but require more coats to be ready for a day or night out.

As the windestine collections are only $4, I would say that they are definitely a necessity for any polish addict’s collection.

Verdict: Buy if you plan to use the glitter to go over black polish (or white polish—that would be daring). If you are looking for glitter polish that can stand alone with minimal effort, you may want to try windestine’s Summer Glitter Collection as the colors are much darker.
