Introduction
We know what everyone says about Princeton fashion. They say that we all look like we stepped out of a J. Crew catalog; now that isn’t a problem, but the lack of diversity in our stylings is an issue. Where is the fashion experimentation? Where is our drive to dress to impress?–dead with the flowers held hostage under the snow. Believe it or not, spring is soon to come which means new clothes. I don’t think that we intentionally fall into the roles of J. Crew models, but what else do we know? Trendy has become the way of life in almost all stores. Modcloth, American Apparel, and Urban Outfitters are more similar than they ever were before. Unique pieces are hard to find. Enter Etsy. Etsy connects the sellers with the buyers in a unique way. Hand-made products, that are one-of-a-kind and often custom-made, are not only really unique but perfect for Princeton collegiettes. In the upcoming weeks we will highlighting our most recent favorite shops on Etsy!

Once Upon a Yarn owned by Megan (Princeton, NJ)
Approximately 2.5 miles away from campus, Megan is probably crocheting and knitting her beautiful shawls, mittens, and more. Megan, a Princeton resident and proud owner of Etsy Shop Once Upon a Yarn, takes painstaking care to produce items that are brightly colored and well-made. We are very excited to have Megan’s support of Her Campus Princeton and our giveaway, and to have one of her amazing products given to one of you–our lovely Her Campus Princeton readers!

Her Campus Princeton: So, Megan, tell us about yourself.
Megan:  I have been crocheting and knitting since my college roommate taught me (a long time ago)! I enjoy working from patterns and enhancing them with my own personal touches. My favorite projects include baby blankets, shawls, afghans and personal accessories. In my spare time, I enjoy making blankets for Project Linus. I am currently making chemo caps, preemie gowns, blankets and booties and assorted items for other charities. I run a childcare business in my home while looking after my husband and two teenage daughters. Crocheting is a great way for me to relieve tension and stress…..and to create some wonderful handmade items!
Her Campus Princeton: When did you begin your Etsy store?
Megan: Feb. 15, 2010
Her Campus Princeton: Why did you get involved in the Etsy business?
Jackie: : I began my Etsy store to sell my hand crocheted and hand knitted items. Due to my profession, I don’t have much time available to sit at craft sales and flea markets showing my goods. A friend of mine told me about Etsy, and after I checked it out, I decided that it would be a good venue for selling my handmade items.
Her Campus Princeton: Is it possible to describe your Etsy store in one?
Megan: Diverse
Her Campus Princeton: Why should Princeton women know about Once Upon a Yarn.
Megan: I offer unique personal items and accessories, as well as custom made items. If you don’t see it, just convo me, and I can probably make it! I am also conveniently located about 2.5 miles from the front gates of Princeton University and can offer pickup instead of mail.
