The Biblical Shade Jordin Sparks’ Threw at All of Those Mad About #TakeAKnee

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

Protests during the national anthem became popular all across the NFL last year when Colin Kaepernick decided he had enough of the injustices directed towards black Americans in the US. As y’all know, football season’s upon us, and once again, people are finding different ways to stand up to these injustices. Just like Jordin Sparks’ did at Monday night’s Dallas Cowboys vs. Arizona Cardinals game.

On her hand, Jordin had “Prov. 31:8-9” written in black ink. The verse reads as “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the right of the poor and needy.”

This blew up all over social media with tweets from ABC, TIME and Entertainment Tonight. It’s speculated that this was her way of protesting injustices and President Trump’s response to certain peoples’ unique choice of activism.

The #TakeAKnee movement made its presence known all over social media, with other celebrities such as Diddy, Jesse Williams, Zendaya, John Legend and Yara Shahidi vocalizing their support.
