10 Movies You Need to Watch to Call Yourself an Adult

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

Raise your hand if someone has ever yelled at you: “What do you mean you haven’t seen __________ movie?!” Without a doubt, I have been on the receiving end of this question. Sometimes it was a boyfriend baffled by the fact that I’d hadn’t seen Star Wars. Other times it would be my friends quoting Dirty Dancing while I just nodded along with nothing to contribute. Either way, I realized that some movies are really important to our pop culture. Some people argue that reading the news is the best way to keep up to date. I would say that watching movies can do the same thing. So here are the 10 movies you need to watch to be a legit adult. Say goodbye to Twilight and say hello to Dirty Dancing.

Titanic

“I’ll never let go, Jack. I’ll never let go.”

Star Wars (Series)

“These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.”

Forrest Gump

“I’m not a smart man… but I know what love is.”

Mean Girls

“Your mom’s chest hair!”

Dirty Dancing

“I carried a watermelon.”

Grease

“Tell me about it, stud.”

Harry Potter (Series)

“Now if you two don’t mind, I’m going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed – or worse, expelled.”

Lord of the Rings (Series)

“You shall not pass!”

The Shawshank Redemption

“Get busy living, or get busy dying.”

The Princess Bride

“As you wish.”
