With nearly four million twitter followers, eight million YouTube subscribers and a handful of New York Times bestsellers, John Green is an icon for young adults.

John Green just gets it. He gets teenagers, even though he hasn’t been one for nearly 20 years.

I first discovered John Green about three years ago when I read The Fault in Our Stars for the first time. His extensive use of metaphors and impeccable storylines draw us in from page one. He was able to write a book about two kids with cancer, and not center it around the cancer.

Green makes himself completely accessible to his fans, almost to the point where you feel like you know him…and he wants it that way.  A few months after falling under Green’s spell with TfiOS, I came across these two completely over the top and nerdy brothers making YouTube videos together under the name “VlogBrothers.”

They addressed their followers as NerdFighters, set up the videos as if they were video messages to one another, and didn’t sign off until they reminded their viewers just how awesome they were.

Two weeks after I began binge watching VlogBrothers, it donned on me the older brother was no one other than John Green himself. I couldn’t believe the nerdy man on my computer screen with his face covered in peanut butter because his brother dared him to do it had created my beloved Augustus Waters.

I’ve been religiously watching VlogBrothers ever since, with new videos out every Tuesday and Friday. In addition, I’ve read and completely fallen in love with Green’s other books, with Paper Towns being my favorite.

Last summer, the world was taken over by the love story of Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace Lancaster as the movie adaptation of The Fault in Our Stars was officially released and grossed nearly 300 million dollars worldwide.

This summer, Paper Towns will finally hit the big screen. The trailer premiered last week and had nearly 3,000,000 views the first day. It’s set to be just as big if not bigger as Fault.

John Green, you are a genius and we love you.
