A Tribute to Alan Rickman

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

Alan Rickman touched the lives of all who knew him. However, those who only knew him through the roles he played felt his loss just as deeply.

Throughout the course of his career, Rickman portrayed a wide variety of roles ranging from The Sheriff of Nottingham (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, 1991), to Colonel Brandon (Sense and Sensibility, 1995), to the notorious, yet beloved Severus Snape (Harry Potter Series, 2001-2011).

Here is a look at some of his most memorable roles throughout the course of his career-

1978- Tybalt in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet

1988- Hans Gruber in Die Hard

1991- Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

1995- Colonel Brandon in Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility

1999- Metatron in Dogma

2001-2011- Severus Snape in the Harry Potter Series

2003- Harry in Love Actually

2007- Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd

2008- Steven Spurrier in Bottle Shock

2010- voice of the Blue Caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland

2013- Ronald Reagan in Lee Daniels’ The Butler

He most recently finished recording for the voice of the Blue Caterpillar in Alice Through the Looking Glass, set to release later this year.

The world has truly lost a great actor, and friend.

Will we still love him after all this time?
