Time Magazine’s 30 Most Influential Teens of 2015

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

Time Magazine revealed its 30 Most Influential Teens of 2015 list, including everyone from Kylie Jenner to Ahmed Mohammed.

This year’s list isn’t short on its selection of actresses, social media pioneers, youtubers, entrepreneurs, and activists. The ranking goes from youngest to oldest and making the list is determined by media coverage, social media stats, and accomplishments.  Some of these kids are seriously impressive.

The oldest on the list is 19 year old Lele Pons, who is the most watched vine star. Model and Kardashian star Kendall Jenner made the list for her social media following, runway impact, and having the most liked photo on Instagram.  Like her sister, Kylie Jenner also makes the list for her social media audience of over 60 million and, yes, her infamous lips.

Amandla Stenberg, who notoriously called out fellow influential teen Kylie Jenner, made the list for calling out other white celebrities who “adopted black culture” as a means to be “edgy.” Zendaya infamously stood up to Giuliana Rancic who made fun of her dreadlocks on E!’s Fashion Police.  She later got her own Barbie doll of the famous Oscar’s look.  Girl Meets World’s Rowan Blanchard can be found on the list for her insightful blog about feminism.

These teens are not only taking social media and culture into their own hands, but changing the world beyond social media.  In fact, the list only gets more impressive with medical discoveries, political figures, and venture capitalists.

17 year old Olivia Hallisey discovered a way to detect the Ebola virus.  Joshua Wong is known as a prominent political figure in Hong Kong at the young age of just 19 years old.  In Brazil, Kim Kataguiri is leading the fight to take down Brazilian President Dilma Roussef.

One of the coolest people on the list is 18 year old Tiffany Zhong, who works as a venture capitalist.  Her job is to find young people who could invent the next big thing in technology.  The youngest person on the list, 13 year old Moziah Bridges, owns an apparel company that supplied NBA players with bowties (seriously!).

Some of the most notable teens are Malala Yousafzai for her continuous advocacy for educating girls; Ahmed Mohammed for sparking a racial profiling debate after he brought a homemade clock to school leading to him being arrested; and Jazz Jennings for educating everyone about being transgender.

The lengthy list also includes Malia Obama, Ariel Winter, and Maddie Ziegler among others.
