Pittsburgh Penguins Unbelievable Win Over The New York Rangers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

On Saturday the Pittsburgh Penguins played the New York Rangers in a nail-biting game at CONSOL Energy Center. After last Tuesday’s 5-0 loss to the Rangers, the Penguins were looking to redeem themselves on home ice, though no one would have predicted what was to happen that night.

Both teams played a solid first period, with the Pens getting on the board first but surrendering the lead just 15 seconds later. Then just about 2 minutes later, the Rangers would gain the lead with a goal by Martin St. Louis. The score would remain the same until 8:09 of the second period, when Evgeni Malkin would send the puck into the net to tie the game.

There would be no goals in the third and the game went into overtime, where both teams were still unsuccessful. They would continue into a shootout where Sidney Crosby was the only Pen to capitalize on his chance, while two Rangers would score.

It seemed as if the game was over, and the Ranger’s believed they won and began celebrating and headed to the locker room. Upon further review the second Ranger’s goal was declared illegal, and the teams had to be brought back onto the ice, the game wasn’t over!

Brandon Sutter was up next for the Penguins and he successfully scored on his attempt, while Ranger’s shooter Rick Nash was stopped by Pen’s goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. In unbelievable fashion, the Penguins had won! The crowd went wild, and the team celebrated ecstatically. It was one of the most unforgettable games the Penguins have ever played and it was truly a privilege to watch it in person!

If you missed the game, you can watch the crazy last few minutes right here.
