Ladies and gents, sweater weather is here. With the weather cooling down and the leaves changing, it’s time to mix-up our wardrobe. One of the easiest and most fabulous ways to do this is by incorporating sweaters. They will keep you warm and cozy in the cold while making you look cute and chic. However, some people may shy away from sweaters, saying they are too “chunky” or make them look like an old lady. But many designers and brands have included stylish sweaters into their fall collections, including Proenza Schouler, The Limited, H&M, Top Shop and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Sweaters come in all shapes, sizes and colors. We chose five kinds of sweaters to keep you warm and trendy!

Play it up with the Cropped Sweater

A cropped sweater is a great way to transition from summer to spring, especially if the fall temperatures are a little slow to come to your area. Choose one in a fun pattern to keep the look playful and young. Or choose a solid color and pump it up with some awesome accessories (hello, statement necklaces!).  A cropped sweater looks super cute with anything high-waisted: skirts, jeans and shorts. Add your favorite fall boots for a final touch.

The Cowl Neck: Bring it Back

While many people think the cowl-neck is too “been there, done that,” it is making a comeback and is always a classic, since it was huge in the ‘70s. These sweaters look best in a solid color, and rich, creamy beige is so in for fall. Dark jewel tones like cobalt blue, plum and cranberry are also great colors for fall. It can be dressed up with a cute skirt and pumps or dressed down with leggings and boots.

Prints for Kicks

Prints are becoming trendier with each season. They are a great way to add a pop of color and personality to your wardrobe and brighten up the drab fall weather. Some prints that are great for fall right now are houndstooth, animal print, geometric shapes and abstract. If you’re feeling really daring and confident, scour your local thrift store for some really wacky sweaters to up your street style cred. Because the sweater will be the focal point of the outfit, keep everything else simple by adding your favorite skinny jeans, leggings or a black pencil skirt and adorable flats or sneakers.

Cozy up with the Cable Knit

Like the cowl neck, the cable knit sweater is also a classic look that will keep you warm and cozy throughout fall and winter. For a modern take, look for a sweater with asymmetrical, leather or stud details. The cable knit is very versatile, but for a very on-trend look, wear it with riding pants and knee-length boots.

Block Party with Color Block

Color-blocking has been a huge part of fashion the past few years, and it looks great on sweaters. Whether you do thick stripes, different shapes or a sweater with different colored sleeves, you’ll be sure to look modern and stylish. Since this is also a print, keep the rest of the outfit simple, like adding a chunky gold chain necklace.

No matter which kind of sweater you choose as your fave or fall wardrobe staple, you’ll be warm, cozy and chic during the cold-weather months. Don’t be afraid to experiment with patterns and accessories and show your personality through your favorite sweater.
