Buctober is here again! With the help of Neil Walker’s three run homer, the Pirates cruised to a 13-7 win over the Colorado Rockies and clinched a playoff berth in the process. This will now be the third consecutive season they have made the playoffs, something the Pirates haven’t done since 1990-1992!

After winning eight of the last nine games, the team is on fire and it doesn’t look like they’re slowing down anytime soon. Which is a good thing considering they begin a series against the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at PNC Park! This is an extremely important series as the Pirates are hoping to catch the Cards and win the division title, which is still possible as the Pirates are only three and a half games behind them.

As of now the Pirates sit in the first wild card position, and most likely will finish there. In that case they will play the Chicago Cubs here in Pittsburgh on October 7th, and the winner of the game would take on the Cards in the first round of the playoffs. If the Pirates manage to catch St. Louis, however, they instead will wait as the Cards play Chicago. The winner of that series would then take on the Pirates in the first round.

Either way, Pirates fans are excited for some October baseball! Let’s Go Bucs!
