Name: Allie Duda

Year in school: Sophomore

Major: “Currently it’s Photojournalism, but I plan on switching over to Mass Communications or Multimedia!”

Favorite Disney character: Pocahontas or Ursula

Position at Disney: Merchandise Sales & Stock at World Of Disney

HC: What made you want to apply to the Disney College Program?

AD: “With my aspirations of having a successful career in the media industry, I knew having The Walt Disney Company on my resume would be a huge step forward in helping me achieve my desired success. However, I knew that it would help instill in me being an even harder worker, and just making families happy! I always went to Walt Disney World with my family growing up, and I wanted to help create the magic that was given to me.”

HC: What was the application process like?

AD: “First I had to fill out an application online. From there, I completed a web-based interview and finally a phone interview. Then I had to wait on an e-mail confirming or declining a position!”

HC: How long does the Disney College Program last?

AD: “The Disney College Programs can vary in length, but mine is only from August to January.”

HC: What do you hope to take away from your experience with Disney?

AD: “To become a harder worker and to have inspiration to reach my goals in the media industry.”

HC: What is a typical work day like for you?

AD: “I work anywhere from 6-12 hours a day for 5 days, and then have two days off to enjoy!”

HC: When you’re not working, what do you & the other students in the program do for fun?

AD: “Going to the theme parks is a priority on days off!”

HC: What is your housing arrangement like while you’re in the program?

AD: “There are several apartment complexes that you share with roommates. They are so nice! Each complex has a pool, on-site laundry, and a gym.”

HC: How is the reality of working at Disney different from your expectations of it?

AD: “The reality is that you are now responsible for making a family’s vacation one to remember. Of course there are rough days, so I have to keep in mind that just because I work at the happiest place in the world doesn’t mean it always be that way! It’s just an inevitable part of working with the public. But when you have or create a magical moment for a guest, the feeling you have is priceless.”

HC: What are your plans when the program ends?

AD: “As of now, I’m planning on coming back to Point Park for my sophomore year, but after that, who knows! I’m just letting the “colors of the wind” take me wherever I’m meant to be. “

HC: What advice do you have for those interested in applying for the Disney College Program in the future?

AD: “Come prepared to work because that’s ultimately what you’re here for. But it is fun and one of the most rewarding experiences of a lifetime. This program builds character, introduces you to lifelong friends, and is a great way to put your foot in the door to any career that you aspire to have someday!”
