8 Perfect Holiday Date Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

The city has decked the halls, holiday drinks have taken over Starbucks, and Market Square has transformed into an adorable Holiday Village. The air may be chilly, but there’s nothing like the excitement of a holiday date to warm things up throughout the most romantic season of the year! We’ve done our research here at HC Point Park to find you the best holi-date spots right here in Pittsburgh.

PPG Place & Market Square: Just a few blocks from campus, you can head over to PPG’s beautiful ice-skating rink and skate around the giant Christmas tree. Then, head inside to the PPG Wintergarden and see all the creative gingerbread houses on display. Take a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride around downtown (it’s fo’ free!) and finish off the night strolling through Market Square’s Holiday Village!

The Point: ‘tis the season to bundle up and walk through Point State Park to see the sparkling Christmas tree all lit up! Grab hot chocolates beforehand to add more of a holiday touch!

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens: This local greenhouse is full of all sorts of plants and flowers that are perfect for decking the halls with, like stunning holiday evergreens and poinsettias. Plus, there’s bound to be some mistletoe hung around to encourage a kiss with your cutie! Tour their breathtaking Winter Light Garden, which is open in the evenings from 5-11 p.m.

Mount Washington & The Incline: Take Pittsburgh’s famous incline up to Mt. Washington to see the most jaw-dropping view of our city! There is something so romantic about those city lights, especially when you can spot the Christmas trees from PPG and The Point off in the distance.

Oglebay Resort: If you and your cutie are looking for a little getaway, take a night drive to Oglebay in Wheeling, West Virginia. Oglebay’s Winter Festival of Lights is one of the nation’s largest holiday light shows that features dazzling scenes of childhood favorites like the Peanuts’ comic characters and the 12 Days of Christmas.

The Cultural District Theatres: Put on your best holiday dress and hit up downtown’s Cultural District to see one of the many fabulous holiday productions that are playing. There is a wide range of shows over the next few weeks (like The Nutcracker, Plaid Tidings, and the Pittsburgh Holiday Doo Wop), so even if your date doesn’t typically like theater, there’s still something they are sure to enjoy!

Kennywood Park: Kennywood (located in West Mifflin) transforms into a winter wonderland their Holiday Lights Event! Enjoy cozying up to your cutie on the thrill rides, or admiring the spectacular lights together while paddle boating on the pond.

Your Fireplace: When the weather outside is frightful, the fire is so delightful! Plan a fun-filled night in with some hot cocoa and a classic Christmas movie, and bake some cookies or make a gingerbread house together.
