Winter Break Style Guide

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Looking for your perfect dress for New Years Eve? Or a precious Christmas outfit that’s appropriate enough to wear around your family?  I’ve chosen three looks for each of my favorite winter break occasions that also stay true to the latest winter trends, so read on for inspiration!

Reuniting-With-Friends Party
These parties are always tough, because you want to look good when you reunite with all of your long-lost high school friends, but you don’t want to look like you’re overdone and thinking you’re cooler than everyone else coming back from college.  Here are some perfect outfits to impress your friends in the best way possible.
·         Urban Outfitters dress with red suede wedges
·         Nasty Gal top with super skinny jeans and bold, dangling earrings
·         Lace black shorts with warm, blush Forever 21 sweater: I’m in love with cool, lace shorts for this season.  They’re so simple, yet they make such a statement.  Since they do most of the work for the outfit, just add a simple sweater on top and you’ll be set.  Shorts like these are sure to be a rarity amongst your friend groups, so you’ll definitely impress everyone in the least obnoxious way possible.

Christmas With the Family
We may love the short, mini red dresses or little green skirts to wear to celebrate Christmas in college.  But when it comes to Christmas at home with the family, we’ve got to tune it down a little bit.  Here are some ways to look fashionable, festive, and appropriate for holidays with our parents, extended families, or whomever else you celebrate with.
·         Nasty Gal blouse with rusty red corduroy Nasty Gal jeans and glimmering, festive earrings:  I love the subtlety of a clean, soft blouse like this one from Nasty Gal.  To make it festive, red corduroy’s add a pop of Christmas color and the fun, festive earrings are an added bonus.  Plus, you can carry these earrings into a New Years Eve look as well!
·         Red studded Topshop cardigan with a simple black tank tucked into high-rise, flared Urban Outfitters pant
·         Asos sweater dress with opaque tights and Dolce Vita Lujan leather riding boots

New Years Eve

NYE is probably one of the best occasions to shop for, because girls have no excuse not to go out in full on, sparkly, glittery ensembles or sexy, edgy outfits.  Agreed?
·         Sequin skinny pants with a subtle sequin tank and killer Mirakl suede platform pumps: For those of you who feel like a dress or skirt won’t keep you warm enough say, in New York City on New Years Eve, these fun sequin pants paired with a sequin tank create the appeal that a long, glittery dress does.  Plus, it’s functional and comfortable, and you can wear these as separates with calmer accents (like a sweater, plain tank, or jeans) on another occasion.  But for NYE, you’ll be sure to look unique and sexy in this outfit.
·         Blue sequin cutout Nasty Gal dress with a chunky rhinestone necklace: Here comes the sparkly dress.  Don’t opt for a dress that everyone else has.  Try ordering online from a unique website or go to local boutiques in Pittsburgh or at home to find something that no one else has.  By pairing this necklace with this dress, you’ll look both hot and beautiful, and you’ll certainly turn heads.
·         Sequin Urban Outfitters shorts with a Sparkle & Fade open back halter top and sheer tights
