Pink goes good with green, doesn’t it?
If you haven’t seen Wicked For Good, it’s a must-see, but bring your tissues because you will need them. I absolutely loved Wicked when I went to see it with my best friend, Savannah, back around this time last year, so the build-up to this movie led me to have high expectations. So when Savannah and I went to see it this year, we were more than a little bit excited.
Wicked: For Good had everything you wanted in a sequel, and much, much more. Even though it was based on Act Two of the Broadway Musical, it took that and made it one of the most beautiful films I saw this year. Whether it was the costume design, music, or the storyline, everything in this truly felt magical. The character development of Glinda and Elphaba, seeing the absolute change for good, is something that would make you cry even without the absolutely heart-wrenching performances of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo at the end of this movie.
Speaking of the musical performance, the musical in this film and in the first has to be some of Stephen Schwartz’s best work. With all the songs performed live for the movie and not using studio recordings, you truly feel the emotion these actors felt during the film’s recording. They truly picked the best people to embody these roles. Along with the music, you have to bring attention to the detail that the costume and prop department made. Glinda’s wedding dress has officially become my dream wedding dress, with the minor details such as the asymmetrical fit mirroring Elphaba’s glasses from the first movie. Along with most of Glinda’s outfits featuring green, when she chooses her own ball gown, it is fully pink, embodying her true pink-loving self (although her lavender and pink dress is absolutely stunning). With all that that’s not even touching on the transformations the Tin man and Scarecrow go through and the details in those costumes, along with all of Elphaba’s outfits.
All and all, I cannot wait to watch this movie again. It is my favorite movie of the year and has absolutely changed my opinion on Wicked “for good.” I definitely recommend seeing it in the theater while it is still playing. I know I might be seeing it again, but I will 100% be watching it again with Savannah, my own Elphie, when it comes out on Amazon hopefully in the near future.
