Summer’s ending, and now that we’re all back in Pittsburgh, September and the start of the fall season will officially be here before we know it. But for those of us who want to hang onto our fun summer tanks and shorts, there are bunches of ways to convert summer looks into trendy autumn ones. Here’s a list of some ways to transform your look without buying an entirely new wardrobe.

1) How to wear our jean shorts: These little denim shorts are so comfortable and match with practically everything. But by the end of September and the beginning of fall, it’ll obviously be a little too cold to wear them with just a tank top. Solution? Pair light jean shorts with a dark, flowy long sleeve top (or the colors vise versa). Add a chunky, colorful necklace or bright scarf and a cross-body bag and you’ll be able to rock your denim into the fall.

2) Bring on the sundress: This summer essential is a girl-favorite and the conversion is simple. To make a floral sundress appropriate, pair it with a brown leather jacket and brown booties to match. Now’s the time to stock up on a few summer sundresses on the sale racks. You’ll be able to wear them this season and next summer too.

3) The sequin tank top: Stella McCartney and Calvin Klein are two of many designers that featured sparkling sequins and metallics on the Fall 2011 runways. Similar trends have been popular throughout the summer, like the sequin tank top for both day and night. To make this a perfect daytime look, throw on a sweater (with fringe to be super trendy!) and jeans on the bottom. For nighttime look, a leather jacket will keep you warm at night and black skinny jeans with pumps will make it even sexier.

4) Graphic tees: Here’s where we can attempt to pull off the growing trend of wide-legged, even high-waisted fall jeans. I know, I know, many of us are stuck on skinny jeans…but, in defense of wide-legged jeans, they can really accentuate and even elongate our legs! Take your oversized summer graphic tee, tuck the front of it into your jeans, and let the rest fall for a relaxed yet stylish look. If you add heels or a pair of summer wedges to the jean look, you will appear even taller and you’ll be sure to wear this look with confidence. So just because we can’t wear our bathing suits all day anymore doesn’t mean we have to get rid of all of our summer looks. Take in a few of these tips for an easy transition into the new season and a new year on campus!
