SNL’s Seth Meyers Pays Pitt a Visit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Midterm week (and the stress) had taken over the last couple weeks, but thanks to the Pitt Program Council, we all shared some laughs before the idea of doing work and studying finally hit us. Seth Meyers took the William Pitt Union stage on Sunday night to grace us with his jokes and sarcasm. Being the HUGE Saturday Night Live fan that I am, I was there an hour and half before the show to get a prime seat in the front, which was worth it since I’m pretty sure we made eye contact.

Seth Meyers soon graced us with his presence with a story of how his father grew up in Pittsburgh and how excited he was to be back in the city he grew to love.  Who knew Seth was such a huge Steelers fan? Next came out the jokes about college and our education. The wonderful thing about Seth Meyers is that he uses comedy to tell us about the world, the same way he does during SNL on the Weekend

Update, so of course he used this time to inform us of the economy.  He encouraged us to get involved with our education and their budget cuts.
He then continued with jokes about the possible presidential candidates and of course President Obama.  Mixing politics and comedy in a tasteful way brought chuckles and sparked ideas with the students who may not have been following the debates. Seth Meyers then closed the show with a Q&A session where questions from “What was your favorite college memory?” to “Which cast member do you miss the most?” arose. In which he responded, that throwing cheese off his frat house onto his neighboring frat brothers was his favorite memory and Amy Poehler, his ex-Weekend Update cohost, was who he missed the most.

The night was filled with laughs, viewpoints, and a story to tell the friends back home, to say you saw Seth Meyers.

I have been a proud Her Campus writer since my freshman year at Pitt and I am now the Social Media Editor for the chapter. So excited to see where the chapter will go but sadly I am a senior graduating in 2015 with a Communication and Art History major and Film Studies minor.
Derilyn Devlin graduates from Pitt in April 2012. She is excited to leave the University of Pittburgh Her Campus to Mandy Velez and Claire Peltier as the new campus correspondents.
