Review: Stack’d Takes on Forbes Avenue

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

During my time at Pitt so far, I have seen (and been to) every space that has occupied the corner of Forbes and Oakland Avenue. From everyone’s beloved Joe Mama’s to the restaurant that didn’t last more than a week (and whose name I can’t seem to remember), now there is a new takeover of the space: Stack’d. This popular build-your-own burger place already has a location in Shadyside off the famous Walnut street, however a few fellow HCer’s and I decided to try the newest addition to the Stack’d (and Forbes Avenue) family!

After being seated next to one of the two huge garage door windows that roll up to expose the beautifully, um, eccentric view of Forbes Avenue, we got hard to work at building the perfect burger. From the bread to the cheese choices, I was already overwhelmed when it came to what sauces and toppings I should pick for my burger masterpiece. However, I went with sourdough bread, provolone cheese, pineapple mayo, mixed greens, tomato, onion, and fried pickles, with a side of tater-tots, of course. I was so hyped for my burger, because they don’t call me ‘meat and potatoes’ for nothing. However, when the food finally arrived what seemed like hours later, it turns out my toppings were not exactly what I ordered. However, a burger is a burger, I devoured it nonetheless, mostly because I didn’t feel like waiting for a new one. The tater-tots surpassed all of my expectations, and even though I was expecting a sourdough bun, the sourdough bread was enough to make me ~swoon~.

Though it had its imperfections, this didn’t stop me from spreading my Stack’d love on my food Instagram, @hungrygrl_bigcity, where the burger got even more appreciation and love by the foodie world. Having a waiter with cookie-cutter cheekbones didn’t hurt, either. However, there was some defeat over not getting that “Hey it’s your Stack’d waiter haha” text the day after. Regardless, I recommend any burger lover, or anyone for that matter, to check out Stack’d ASAP, even if it’s just for attractive waiters and tater-tots.
