I am obsessed with 8tracks. 8tracks is a music streaming/internet radio/social media website dependent on playlists made up of eight tracks or more. It is reminiscent of the historic 8-track recording style, popular between the late 1960’s to early 1980’s in the United States, where an average of eight tracks of music could fit on one tape.

Whether I’m studying, cleaning my room, or getting dressed, I’m most likely listening to an 8tracks playlist. I love how there’s always a playlist that fits my mood or a situation I’m in. Not only is it a great internet radio option, but you can follow other people like any other social media site, and listen to their published playlists. I’ve found so many new cool artists from browsing playlists on 8tracks without much effort.

To get a good understanding of what you might find on 8tracks, I’ve selected an assortment of my favorite playlists for your listening pleasure.

“21st century brat pack” by koalatea

Reminiscent of the typical John Hughes-style soundtrack (think, The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), this playlist consists of fun pop/rock and indie songs by current, young bands and artists. Includes Sky Ferreira, The Naked and Famous, The Fratellis, amongst others.

“{covers}” by aimmyarrowshigh

This playlist is a compilation of often unheard covers of well-known songs by other famous artists. A majority of the songs fall under either the pop or rock genres. Includes “Royals (Lorde cover)” by Pixie Lott and “Valerie (The Zutons cover)” by Panic! At The Disco.

“F*cking sing along: part 2” by mermaidsummer

We all know those songs that you HAVE to sing along to. This playlist collects a number of those songs into one simple assortment. Songs include “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers, “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler, and “Summer Nights” by John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.

“i hate cleaning” by vmpreweeknd

To me (and I assume many others), cleaning is the worst chore ever. It gets marginally better when listening to good music—hence the success of this playlist. Includes Vampire Weekend, Icona Pop, The Killers, amongst others.

“PINK Ultimate Spring Break Playlist” by vspink

Even professionals and companies make playlists on 8tracks! Victoria’s Secret PINK has created a playlist perfect for spring break, whether you’re travelling someplace tropical or chilling at home with your family. Includes Krewella, Beyoncé, Shakira, and Ne-Yo.

A collection of these playlists can be found here
