Ah Valentine’s Day, it is the most romantic time of the year. This is a special time when you show your loved ones just how much you care. Most couples celebrate this by going to see a movie, taking a walk in a park, and of course, the dinner. It seems like this dinner is an extra special intimate moment, perhaps THE moment of Valentine’s Day. So many factors go into a good dinner: the taste of the food has to be superb, the atmosphere has to be right, and the price has to be in your range. The restaurant has to be perfect for you and your special guy. With all these factors involved it may seem hard to find a restaurant like this near campus. Well worry not my friend, because I happen to know a couple of hot spots in and around Oakland for this special day.
Spice Island Tea House
Spice Island Tea house, located on 253 Atwood, is a delicious Thai food restaurant with an amazing atmosphere. This small restaurant is lit up by low lights, the tables are lit by candles, and the walls are darkly colored. This creates a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Most of the tables are meant for two, which is perfect for V-Day. While there, try the “Ever Famous Pad Thai.” If you and your special someone enjoy foreign food and are down for trying something new, this is the place to go!
The Union Grill
The Union Grill is a sports bar on 413 South Craig Street that serves some Pittsburgh favorites such as the classic potato and cheese pierogies. The atmosphere is chill and fun and the prices range between $8 and $30. If you aren’t one to have a super romantic Valentine’s Day, The Union Grill will be a great place to watch sports and kick back and relax!
Home Cooked Meal
Sometimes we think we have to have dinner at a fancy restaurant to truly enjoy the day. Instead, you and your special someone could cook a dish together. This makes for some cute bonding time and you’ll both feel accomplished that you added to your special night. I would suggest something simple like quesadillas or baked chicken.
No matter where you eat on Valentine’s Day, just remember that this day is about celebrating love. Even if things don’t go as planned, everything will be okay because (as cliché as it sounds) it is the thought that counts.
