My Top Trends: Spring 2012 Preview
It’s snowing, or it’s raining, and it’s freezing outside. So I’ve decided to warm us up with a preview of spring’s fashion trends. Hopefully, they’ll help speed up the seemingly long arrival of the spring season.
1) Pleats: These super flattering, angelic, pleated fabrics are all over runways like Chloe and Dior. A pretty pleated dress (Picture 1) can look elegant by itself or edgy with a leather jacket. Start off your wardrobe with a pleated skirt like this one from Nasty Gal. This is definitely a spring must-have.
2) Black and White: Just like the cookie, black and white fabrics create the perfect pair. Sometimes, white attire is hard to pull off, as it doesn’t always look too flattering on every body type. However, when white is outlined by black, like this Gareth Pugh dress (Picture 2), the eye immediately sees an even slimmer figure… and who doesn’t want that?!
3) Bra tops: These sexy little numbers are perfect for a night out. But you’ve got to wear it right—otherwise you’ll end up looking a little too naked for public. Wear one that almost meets the top of a pair of high-waist pants or a high-waist skirt, and show off a little skin. You can find these on runways like Dolce & Gabanna, Donna Karan, or in less expensive stores like H&M and Urban Outfitters.
4) 20’s inspired: I’m already a fan of this era for it’s jazzy attitude, and I’m even more a fan of its style. This drop-waist dress by Roberto Cavalli (Picture 3) is absolutely stunning, and it’s this style that will definitely make you stand out in the crowd. Start keeping an eye out for this trend and be the first to surprise your friends with this newly revived style.
5) One shoulder: This trend has been around for a while, but it’s still making a strong statement on 2012 runways. Its elegance emphasizes the collarbone, allowing women to look beautifully classical. The Carlos Miele dress (Picture 4) looks exquisite on the model. But for a cheaper version, try this Asos mini dress to wow everyone at your next event.
6) Tangerine: Pastel colors are all over the Spring 2012 runways. However, this burst of tangerine color also appears on different runways like Rebecca Minkoff (Picture 5) and Derek Lam. It’s such a fun color, and I’m all about dressing boldly. If you’re not ready to wear a completely tangerine dress, simply try a tangerine tank with a pair of jeans. Jeans never go out of style, and you’ll look fresh and bright with a dazzling orange tank.
7)Suits: I’ve mentioned how much a love a blazer in some of my previous fashion articles. And they’re continuing to rock the runways this spring. Ralph Lauren and Rachel Zoe (Picture 6), for example, showed off these lightly colored blazers accompanied with matching shorts and flirty tanks. This gives us the appearance of a suit, but with a professional and classy style that’s perfect for a meeting or night out in the city with your girl friends. Put this ivory Nasty Gal tank under this light blazer and finish off with sexy shorts!
8)Shoulder cutouts: From dresses to tops, this look is all over runways. Zac Posen, Temperley Longon, and Ralph Lauren all exposed shoulders to the world. For campus appropriate suggestions, try these romantic options from Nasty Gal: Femme Fatale Dress, The Sultans Shirt, and Chiffon Cutout Blouse.
