A Must Watch: What Would Ryan Lochte Do?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

I have a confession: I’m a fan girl of the Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte. I’m a faithful member of Lochte Nation, and I say “JEAH!” Judge me all you want, but I have no regrets; I love Ryan Lochte. When I heard that E! gave him his own reality show, you could say I went into full fan-girl mode. What Would Ryan Lochte Do? is going to air on April 21st- cue the high pitch screaming.

After hearing the news of the show, I quickly logged onto my computer and searched for the teaser trailer (scroll down to watch!). I highly recommend you all watch it as soon as possible. The first 45 seconds include Ryan forgetting the medals he won at the 2012 Olympics, teaching the correct pronunciation of “JEAH”, and showing off his green and gold studded “Ryan Lochte” embedded sneakers. The only thought I had in my mind was, “this show will be gold.” The preview goes on to show all the different sides of Ryan Lochte: world-class athlete, partier, ladies man, family man, troublemaker, businessman, and so forth. He’s even been filmed saying that he wants to settle down, but he can’t see it happening anytime soon. It’s obviously because he hasn’t met me yet… just kidding. Actually no…

Though the trailer shows Ryan being a bit full of himself, there are still clips of him being a stand-up guy. You can see this side of him when he interacts with his family. I found myself in awe while watching Ryan holding and kissing his young nephews. Who doesn’t find it attractive when a gorgeous man is holding a baby? However, what’s the best part of the whole video? He cries. Yes ladies, he cries over winning an Olympic medal for the first time and how happy he was to share it with his family. I can’t lie; I may have teared up a bit myself. Oh, did I forget to mention he’s a huge animal lover too? *Swoon*

Watch the trailer now!

If you don’t know a lot about Ryan Lochte and have only seen photos, I suggest searching his interviews on YouTube. My favorite clip is when he’s asked what describes him. He answered saying, “Ryan Lochte.” As in, Ryan Lochte describes Ryan Lochte. There are countless other moments that can make you laugh, and if the videos don’t prove how great the show will be, check out his twitter; there is always something interesting tweeted. For example: “Always reach for the moon cuz if u slip up u will still be a star!! #Jeah”

He’s a bit of an airhead, that’s certain, and the press really attacks him on it too. I just think he acts like a kid and has a little jokester in his smile! That’s what makes him genuine and what will make the reality show fun! You can’t fake those responses and ridiculous facial expressions. He’s confident with who he is and what he likes. I mean, the man wore an American Flag grill on the winners’ podium at the 2012 London games. You know the show is going to be good.

What can I say? Loving Ryan Lochte is a guilty pleasure of mine, and so will watching his reality show. So what if I wear a Lochte Nation t-shirt, tinfoil grill, and scream “JEAH!” at my television? It’s all in good fun. All and all, what I’ve taken away from the preview is that this show is going to be entertaining. We’ll be able to see other sides of this man that we haven’t seen before, and it’s going to be hilarious.
