Meet Liz Santucci ’16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Name: Liz Santucci

Class of: 2016

Major: Bioengineering

Minor: Chemistry

SF: I know that you like to stay involved on campus; what groups are you in?

LS: I am a member of Biomedical Engineering Society, and the Honors Fraternity Phi Sigma Pi. BMES takes up a lot of my time because I am on the board, but I like that it does—I really enjoy what we do. Phi Sigma Pi can also be pretty time consuming, though.

SF: Do you have any idea of what you want to do with your degree?

LS: I plan on going to medical school so that I can ultimately apply my understanding of systems in relation to the body to patient care. I want to use my bioengineering background to solve clinical problems where the current care falls short. As doctors are relying more heavily on tehnology to care for their patients, my understanding of these technologies will help me to not only provide quality care but further advance this field!

SF: What is your favorite thing about being a student at Pitt?

LS: I think I am very lucky to be a part of the engineering school at Pitt because it allows for a very small, close knit community, but when I leave Swanson it’s like back to being at a big school, so I get the best of both worlds.

SF: With such an intensive major, how do you spend your spare time?

LS: I like to be really busy, but I do sometimes play the piano between classes. I always make time for my friend, Aly, though; she’s in my major so we can do homework, but we may also spend a bit of time scouting out boys with spectacular beards. I’m currently building a 1,000-piece puzzle on my porch.

SF: If you had to compare yourself to one celebrity who would it be?

LS: Definitely Ke$ha. Her favorite color is glitter and so is mine.

SF: Where do you want to see yourself in ten years?

LS: If I’m not on Billboard as Ke$ha’s next collaborator, I’d probably want to be working at a well-respected hospital in the Pediatric Unit.
