Name: Jenn Bertocchi

Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA

Major: Sociology and International Relations

Year: Sophomore

HC: Why did you end up coming to Pitt?

JB: My whole family went to Pitt, so I’ve loved it since I was little.

HC: If you could do anything, what do you want to do after you graduate?

JB: I’d join the Peace Corps; and if I could really do anything, I would want to take puppies to sick children in the hospital (notice the above picture, she loves puppies).  As of right now, my plan is to join the Peace Corps and travel the world.

HC: What do you like to do in your free time?

JB: I like dancing, hanging out with my friends, being with my sisters—I’m the social chair of my sorority, Alpha Delta Pi.  I also like to play with animals—every time I see one on the street I have to stop and pet it… my friends always get annoyed if we’re going somewhere!  I also love to eat, but I mean who doesn’t?

HC: What are your guilty pleasures?

JB: Oooooh.  Chocolate covered anything is definitely a big one.  Also Game of Thrones. I literally went on a binge marathon watching it.  I also love shoes! I love going to concerts; I had so much fun going to the Maroon 5 concert, Skrillex, Identity Fest, and John Mayer.  I live for concerts.

HC: Favorite ice cream flavor?

JB: Cake batter ice cream with cookie dough in it from Cold Stone Creamery!  It’s the best of both worlds.

HC: What main qualities do you seek in a significant other?

JB: I look for someone who is a sweetheart, likes to have fun, can make me laugh, and has a nice smile.  I also need someone who’s a little quirky, because they need to be almost as weird (or the same amount) that I am.  I really love when a guy remembers the little things.

HC: What are some qualities that turn you off?

JB: In general, I dislike people who are mean to others or put them down.  And players.  I’m sorry, but guys just need to be upfront if they’re going to juggle girls!

HC: What is your ideal first date?

JB: Well, I recently went on a date to the Union Grill that was very ideal.  We split a bottle of wine, ate grilled cheeses and burgers, and just got to know each other. It doesn’t get much better than that! I also think it’s so cute when a guy will remember your favorite food and cook it for you!

HC: Who has been your biggest inspiration and why?

JB: I would say two different people: my pap and my brother.  They’ve both taught me to love unconditionally and always look for the best in everyone.  Also, all three of my parents—mom, stepdad, and dad—for supporting me and showing me the kind of woman I want to grow up to be.

HC: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be? Why?

JB: I would really love to travel to as many places as possible.  My goal is to make it to 30 countries by the time I’m 30 years old.  So far I’ve been to three.  This summer, I lived in France on a Pitt study abroad program.  My host mom was the cutest ever, and I had a blast making friends with Pitt students and French students abroad that I’ll be friends with forever. For the spring semester, I’ll be studying abroad in Rome.  On top of that, after college I’d love to backpack through India and China.  I’m huge into traveling if you couldn’t tell!

HC: What’s your best memory from traveling abroad?

JB: Probably the first night in France, when my six best friends and I went out and we realized how in love with each other we were!  (A shout out to those friends: selfies for days!)

HC: What is your favorite memory thus far at Pitt?

JB: Welllllll [laughs]. Freshman year in general was the best year of my life.  I met all my best friends and had some really embarrassing stories along the way (most formed not in a normal state).  There isn’t one specific memory from that year; altogether, the year in general was amazing.
