If you like Fleetwood Mac, try “Daisy Jones & The Six”

As a kid, I grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac. As I got older, I became more invested in music and media. Eventually, this led me down the rabbit hole of the relationship drama between Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. Daisy Jones & The Six was released in early March 2023 and was heavily influenced by Fleetwood Mac’s rise and fall. Love triangles, drugs, alcohol, and drama consumed this show. Not only was the show’s plot phenomenal, the soundtrack was even better. AURORA, similar to Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, is the first studio album by Daisy Jones and the Six. Specifically, I am going to review my top three favorite tracks off the record!

Starting with the second track, “Let Me Down Easy”, various elements resemble Fleetwood Mac’s music style. Not just with this track, but throughout the album, the strong instrumentals dominate the songs. There’s such a refreshing blend of vocals and guitar riffs that give a 70s vibe. I am completely obsessed with the lyrics and execution.

The fifth song, “Look At Us Now (Honeycomb)”, is what hooked me onto this show. The song starts slower but picks up with a fast guitar solo. The vocals cut back into this guitar riff, bringing the song more upbeat. As it comes down, it slows, following the pace of the backing instruments. My sister showed me this song and immediately I needed to know more. Without spoiling, all I’m going to say is that “‘This is a love song,’ says Daisy Jones.”

In the sixth track “Regret Me”, I love how the two vocalists go back and forth. You can feel the tension through the song, which makes it completely addicting. In parallel with Fleetwood Mac’s Silver Springs, these two songs sonically and lyrically are not the same but reflect a woman’s right to be angry. Both songs are amazing, but the way they’re performed is even better.

As you don’t have to watch the show, I recommend watching and then listening to the album. The lyrics are inspired by the plot of the show, which is inspired by Fleetwood Mac. Stevie Nicks herself even watched the show and posted “Just finished watching @daisyjonesand6 for the 2nd time. In the beginning, it wasn’t really my story, but Riley seamlessly soon became my story…it brought back memories that made me feel like a ghost watching my own story.” The band was supposed to go on tour but the tour was canceled because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. However never say never, with nine Emmy nominations this year, I am manifesting a Daisy Jones & The Six tour!
