Over the summer, one of my friends called me in a panic. She was not feeling well, and she had never been to Pitt’s Student Health Services. She had no idea where it was or what she needed to bring with her. All of these questions were making her feel even worse than she already felt.

Lucky for you, all of this information will be right at your fingertips when you need it! Below you can find the answers to all of your questions about health services for students at Pitt.

What is the Student Health Fee?

It is an $85/semester charge that shows up on your tuition bill. It covers many of the services available at Student Health. There are minimal fees for select services. Any additional charges must be paid at the time of the visit. Payment can be made with cash, personal check, Panther Funds, MasterCard, Visa, or Discover.

What hours is student health open?

From September to August:
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 8:30 am to 7:00 pm
Wednesday and Friday: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Saturday: 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
(Saturday hours are for sick or acutely ill students only, no appointment is necessary.)

How do I make an appointment?

Call (412) 383-1800 or go to the Student Health Services Clinic Waiting Room (Room 500) and speak with a receptionist. Be sure to have your Peoplesoft ID number available.

What happens if I accidentally miss an appointment?

If you do not come to your appointment and/or fail to cancel it at least 2 hours before the time of the appointment, you will be charged $10 to your tuition bill. You may also be charged $10 if you arrive to your appointment more than 10 minutes late.

If you miss a travel health or routine physical appointment and do not cancel more than 2 hours in advance, you will be charged a $20 no-show fee.

What do I do if student health is closed and I am sick?

Call 911 if you are experiencing a life threatening emergency or go to the nearest emergency department. (UPMC Presby is right on campus.)

There are a couple of local urgent care centers if you would like to been seen by a doctor but are not having an emergency.

Where is Student Health located?

Student Health Services and the Student Pharmacy are located in the Medical Arts Building. That is the building directly to the right of Rita’s Italian Ice on Fifth Avenue. Once you go in the front doors, you will have to show your Pitt ID to the security guard. Then take the elevators to the 5th floor. Student Health is to the right and the Pharmacy is to the left.

The address is:
University of Pittsburgh
Student Health Service

What do I do when I show up for an appointment?

Student Health Services is in Room 500. You will have to swipe-in with your Pitt ID. “If you have a scheduled appointment, your check-in will be complete after receiving an invoice with your appointment information and unique identification barcode on the form. If you do NOT have an appointment, talk to a receptionist after you swipe-in. Go to the appropriate Waiting Room listed on your invoice.
